The class was fantastic! She showed us her own proposal (which has been picked up by a major publisher) and walked us through each section. She also had us come up with a new book idea on the spot so we could come up with answers to each section based on something that we hadn't already spent a ton of time thinking about.
Jo has an amazing knack for getting people to think and speak boldly, which is exactly what is needed for a book proposal and I'm really in awe of it. Once of the big questions you have to answer with a book proposal is "Why are YOU the person to write this book?" Which is something I have a hard time with in many situations (why are YOU the person who should get this job? Why are YOU the person who should write this article?) But she managed, with minimal cajoling, to get me to answer that question about a book I had just come up with on the spot. And I managed to give an answer with minimal embellishment
I actually might end up writing the book proposal I made up in her class. It seems like a good idea now.
