And the last day I was there was WORK. The event was an all day thing that took place in four different sections of a hotel. So we'd set up one room, guests would go into it and we'd set up another room. In some cases we'd strike an area they left and set those elements up in a different way in a different room. So it was a bit...fraught. The set up started at 8:00am and wasn't finished till 7:30pm. Strike started at 8pm and didn't end till 4am. I was only on the morning crew but I was bone tired by 7:30. There were people who stayed on for the night shift as well and I don't know how they survived.
Events are, to a theatre person, a bit like bit like Narnia under the White Witch's rule; Always techweek and never cast party. This is the main reason I don't want to do events full time. Burlesque is mostly cast party, which is why I like it so much. I love design but in my heart I'm mostly a director/performer, I want to enjoy the show I've spent so much time on. I want to perfect it and watch it grow. With events you get one shot, there's always disasters, and you barely have time to pee let alone enjoy yourself.
I spent most of yesterday sleeping and cuddling with my fiance and cat. They both missed me very much but Jax was more forceful when she demanded cuddles.
