Wow, this summer went by so quickly! This post marks roughly a year since I started my 3D endeavors in earnest. It was mainly spent climbing a fairly steep learning curve but now that I am becoming more proficient on the art side I am going to try to switch gears to production while still trying to improve along the way.
As the Transfigure 3D demo gets closer to being presentable, I’ve been nibbling away at the project on a variety of fronts. This includes writing, graphics, sound effects, music, and animation well beyond the scope of the initial demo.
I’m trying to get a solid workflow developed and create assets for the rest of the TF universe while upping the quality level where possible.
This month I worked on backgrounds quite a bit. Backgrounds tend to take a lot of time. Especially since the best ones are so multi-layered, for example a customized scene with good lighting, a double background, and a skydome. I’ve spent hundreds of hours over the past year searching for assets I can repurpose so a lot of them will start to appear in this area. Transfigure is a huge story with a lot of different characters and locations so I think it would challenge any artist let alone a newcomer like me.
I always really enjoyed creating art like sculptures but I’ve never really considered myself an artist since I always felt like drawing was the most useful art skill and I suck at it. Exploring 3D art has really unleashed a lot of restrained creativity I had pent up and it’s been a lot of fun.
I also finished a bunch of texture experiments and I settled on a final hair color for Yellow Potion Taylor, which is more golden blonde than the crayon yellow or the dyed blonde look. I changed her eyebrows to match but kept her eyelashes dark because it draws attention to her eyes and the blonde ones looked a bit odd. I think the newest renders are starting to look pretty good. Golden-Pink Bunny Yellow Potion Taylor is cute! Let me know if you agree or if you think I’m inhaling too many pink fumes. Apparently Patreon allows captions now so I wrote some for this post.
I am also trying to cobble together a few of the assets that don’t fit into Transfigure to make some comics and such. I wrote two comic strips this month and I will try to release one in September.
Html wise I am trying to wrangle down a whole bunch of story documents into .61. It still needs a fair amount of work depending on what I choose to include in the final cut but I will give it a good go in early September.
P.S. For those on Patreon they introduced some collection tab thingies that look more effective than having a massive wall of tags so I will try to fill those in when I have time to make navigation easier.
