As you may know the tour is based on the work Hannah Hart (MyDrunkKitchen) did years ago, where she drove around the country meeting with fans at food banks to volunteer. My partner and I bought an RV and we'll be doing a sex ed version. It'll be totally free sex ed for anyone who shows up where we land: public libraries, parks, auditoriums etc. It's going to be a lot of time away from home; I'll certainly miss my dog but I need to do this for my muchness.
A few months ago when the possibility of a tour solidified I knew a few things: I couldn't do this by myself, I want the education we offer to be free, and I want to go places that need the information most -- places that don't have great access to sex ed online or in their classrooms; places where "teachers" tell their students that condoms cause STIs and girls are less valuable the more they have sex; places that believe non-cis-het identities should be cured, and that rape is the victim's fault. This tour is not about big cities and lots of publicity. It's about being of service.
So, I recruited a team, which I affectionately called the Road Head Think Tank, to assist with planning. They've built a website, set up crowdfunding pages (Indiegogo and Patreon), and secured a partnership with a 501c3, The Effing Foundation so all donations are tax deductible.
I'm telling you all this for a few reasons:
1) Hopefully you'd like to support what we're doing and you can contribute and/or get the word out to others who might like to help.
2) For clarity, the tour is called Sexplanations Road Tour but this is not produced by Complexly like Sexplanations. Complexly likes what I'm doing but isn't paying for, staffing, or managing this endeavor. That's on me and the other volunteers.
3) I'm really excited and nervous about how all of this is going to go. It's nice to tell friendly people what's happening in my world and hear your feedback.
Anyway, thanks for being part of my community. I hope you like the video on Wednesday and share it with friends. Feel free to check out the fundraising pages in the meantime and let me know if you have any suggestions on how to make this all more successful.
Curious,
Lindsey
