"Are you sure about this?" Emily asked, looking Angel up and down.
Angel shifted in place, the crinkling of her diaper echoing in the confines of the bathroom. "Well, I was," she shrugged. "Should I not be?"
"No, no!" Emily shook her head quickly. "I didn't want to make you think that! Y-You like fine, I just... We do still have to get out to your car, and..." She stammered, her panic probably not helping her case at all.
"Is it that obvious?" Angel turned her body into a profile view, running her hands down the small of her back, over the curve of her double diaper. Emily squirmed, a part of her feeling a bit jealous at how good her friend looked. If anything, the swell of her diapers - assuming someone didn't know that was what they were - only made her sexier, made her backside look rounder. Emily glanced down at herself, wondering if the same might be true of her, though she was certain it wasn't, that it was so much more clear on her, no matter what she wore over it, that it was a diaper.
"N-No," Emily assured her. "Still, you know... I-If we run into Kayla or Lainey..."
"Well, we'll just have to hope we don't do that," Angel said nonchalantly, taking Emily by the hand. "Come on! I'm starting to think you're the one who's nervous! You do this every day, silly!"
That was true... It had become commonplace, almost, in a way she never would have dreamed, back when she'd started freshman year, when she'd planned to only wear diapers alone in her dorm room every now and then, when she had the chance. She was used to it... But it was usually only her, and she felt like most people just didn't pay much attention to her, so it was easier to slip by their notice. Angel, on the other hand, was somebody who people tended to look at... And, if they realized what she was wearing, and then peered down at her companion, perhaps they would make the connection...
"My car isn't that far," Angel told her. "And they don't go to the cafeteria this way, unless they were at the library or something."
"Okay," Emily nodded, hardly able to believe she was the one who needed the encouragement right now. She was supposed to be here for moral support for Angel! "No, you're right," she nodded again, determined to do better. "If we act like nothing is weird, nobody will give us a second glance."
That may not be true for Angel, but it was a philosophy that had served Emily well. She took the lead, stepping in front of Angel and pushing open the bathroom door, leading her outside. Despite the confidence she'd shown inside, Angel did hesitate, seeing the hallway of the classroom building stretching out in front of her, and again at the exit, needing a gentle pull from Emily to get her moving.
It was, after all, her first time going out in double diapers... And her first time being outside of the dorm in diapers at all during the day. She'd worn them back from the party, of course, and Emily had met her at her room to try them out some more now and then, when Charli, Angel's roommate, had study group or a date or something that would keep her away for a while. Emily had cajoled her into going to get something from the vending machines in the basement in them, or even doing laundry, but they hadn't left the dorm.
Were they moving too quickly? Should she have talked Angel out of the double diapers, told her it was too much to start with? She had meant it as a joke, and Angel had run with it, though Emily could have warned her said it was a bad idea... She'd just gotten swept up in the moment, in a way that she knew she shouldn't have when she was supposed to be the experienced one, the one guiding her friend, giving her a fun adventure, not a humiliating one that might turn her off from ever wanting to do this again...
She did tug on the girl's hand, however, and that was all it took to get her to step over the thresholds, to risk running into other students, or her professors. It didn't take much; Angel could have stood her ground, stayed frozen, frightened, and Emily wouldn't have dragged her out. She was hesitant, but only slightly... Still, if this didn't go well, Emily knew it was ultimately her fault.
"Wow," Angel chuckled nervously as they stepped out onto the sidewalk. "I can't believe I'm doing this..."
"Y-You don't have to if you don't want," Emily pointed out, giving her friend an out, if she had any desire to take advantage of it.
She didn't seem to. "No," Angel smiled, squeezing Emily's hand a bit tighter. "We need to go shopping!"
It was nice outside, which meant there were plenty of people standing around out there, or lounging on the benches and talking, for the pair to have to saunter past, doing their best to follow Emily's advice of acting casual, the chatter, and the sheer size of the outdoors, doing a good job of masking any sounds their diapers might be making, even if it did nothing to hide the bulge of their padding.
Lainey and Kayla were, indeed, nowhere to be seen, and neither were any of the rest of their group of friends, letting them make it to the parking lot where Angel's car was parked, sliding into the seats before dissolving into anxious, yet relieved, giggles. "We did it!" Angel exclaimed. "I can't believe you do that every day! How old were you when all this started?"
"I-It was just a few years ago," Emily answered. She never had told Kayla the full 'story' of her supposed condition, although she had implied she'd been dealing with it for quite a while, or at least that it had felt that way to her. Hopefully the two wouldn't compare notes too closely...
"So, you had to wear during high school?" Angel shook her head. "That really must have sucked..."
"N-No, it's fine," Emily replied, face lighting up as she imagined what it would have been like, how untrue that statement would have been. She did have friends, but none close enough that she would have expected them to stick by her, much less stick up for her, if her 'secret' had gone public... And there were plenty of girls who had already loved to tease her for being so small and mousy, who no doubt would have delighted in having one more thing to mock her for... "I-It's over now, so it doesn't matter."
"Oh, Emily," Angel leaned over in the car to give her a hug. "I'm sorry. Is this... Do you think it's insensitive of me, wanting to just try it out for fun, when you've...?"
"No!" Emily cut her off, a wave of guilt washing over her as she saw the same thing happening to Angel. A part of her wanted to confess the truth, to let her know that she was actually the same, that she didn't need these diapers at all either, so she had no reason to feel bad. She'd probably keep the secret, since it was the same as her own, but if she didn't, if she let it slip accidentally, or if she felt betrayed by the lie and felt like Kayla, at least, deserved to know the real story... Emily wasn't sure how her roommate would react, and didn't want to find out, didn't want to have to potentially find a whole new group of friends when college was nearly halfway over.
"I-I've accepted it," she improvised. "A-And it's nice to see that someone else knows what I'm going through... I-I know you could take them off at any time, and I can't, but... That makes it more special that you choose not to, kind of, you know?"
Angel smiled and nodded, thankfully, rather than asking for clarification, which Emily wasn't certain she could have babbled her way through in a coherent fashion. "As long as you don't think it's offensive or anything." Emily shook her head, leaning back and buckling herself in while Angel finally started the car and drove them off to the store.
Once they arrived, it was Angel's turn to inquire, "Are you sure about this?" as Emily fidgeted in her seat.
Emily had been dreaming about this for years, even before she'd ever had the guts to try on a diaper herself. It all went back, she was pretty certain, to a trip to the mall she'd taken with her friends where one of them had to drop by a kids' clothing store to pick up something for their little sister. She'd been so apologetic, so annoyed that her parents had made her take time away from hanging out to do it, yet Emily had been enthralled, staring around at all the adorable little dresses and outfits...
And then her friend had made that fateful comment, the one that had, in a way, led to all this. Emily would probably have stumbled across it eventually anyway, but it wouldn't have happened as quickly had she not heard the words, if they hadn't sparked something in her that made her start Googling stuff at home to see if it might be possible, only to stumble across more than she'd ever bargained for...
"I bet you'd fit into some of these clothes," the other girl had teased. That was all it had taken. Emily had been too embarrassed, too flustered, to even formulate a response then and there, to do anything other than imagine her friend making her put on one of those frilly little dresses to prove to her that she was right...
If Emily had her own car, she likely would have tried this on her own already; since she didn't, she hadn't known how to bring it up in a way that wouldn't seem strange to her other friends. So it had seemed like fate when, as they hung out one afternoon, after Emily had helped put Angel into a diaper, Angel had mused, "You know, you're not that much bigger than some of my brother's friends... I wonder if you could fit into kids' clothes..."
And now here they were, about to finally find out. Back when it had first occurred to her, the idea of being diapered for it had never even entered her mind, but now, it was such a natural extension of the concept, an extra added bit of delicious embarrassment... She was excited about it, no doubt, however, she couldn't help feeling worried, somehow.
"I-It doesn't look busy," she pointed out, more for her own benefit than Angel's. "I-I guess everyone is taking their kids to the park to enjoy the weather."
"Probably," Angel agreed. "You can have the store all to yourself... Or, if you changed your mind, we can..."
"No," Emily took a deep breath. "No, I want to do it."
"All right," Angel grinned, opening up her car door. "You wait right there... I don't want you running around the parking lot without holding my hand."
Emily blushed, but stayed in her seat while Angel walked around the car, opening the door for her and unbuckling her seatbelt, grabbing her hand, and, in a reverse of their trip to the parking lot, taking the lead as she guided Emily to the shop.
The one bad thing about the shop not being busy that Emily hadn't considered was that, as soon as they stepped in, the bell above the door announcing their presence, one of the workers was heading straight for them. "Hi, there!" she exclaimed, sizing them up and, instantly, after flashing a smile at Emily, turning to Angel and addressing her. "What can I do for you ladies?"
Emily squirmed, recognizing that move from when she'd gone shopping with her mother as a child. Somehow, despite Angel being the one in thicker diapers, and despite Angel not being all that much taller than Emily, really, the difference not so large that they weren't able to fit into the same size diapers, she had been able to tell that Angel was the one in charge. Angel shot Emily a bemused look as the discussion they'd had beforehand flashed through Emily's mind. "If we seem too out of place, we can always say we're just shopping for a niece or something," Emily had suggested, pretending it was an idea she'd come up with right then, as opposed to having devised it years ago and never had the chance to implement it.
Angel did not take advantage of it. "She," Angel said instead, swinging her arm, and Emily's by extension, their hands still clinging together, "has a little dance to go to, so I wanted to find her something nice to wear."
Emily blushed, which, she realized, did not necessarily blow her cover, since if she had been a little girl, she might have been embarrassed about getting all dressed up for a dance anyway, even if the person doing it wasn't basically the same age as her. It probably helped, she surmised, that Angel hadn't mentioned how they were related... If she'd claimed to be her mother, that might have been weird, but by leaving that out, she could have been an older sister, a babysitter, possibly an aunt, and the worker could fill in whichever one seemed most plausible to her.
"How exciting!" the worker clapped, smiling down at Emily again, showing no signs that she suspected Emily was too old to be shopping here, which, in turn, made Emily feel that much smaller, and more like this was where she belonged. "Don't you worry, cutie... We're going to find you the perfect dress!"
