Johnny and I both love purple and he seemed pretty set on a dark boudoir kind of look. But, again, it's not a big room so I didn't want to make it seem smaller by going super dark. Also living in a basement has given me an aversion to small, dark, living spaces. So I decided to lighten it up with a lighter ceiling color, that came down the wall a bit so the ceilings would look higher. The mint green was Johnny's idea, and I think it looks fabulous. I'm not sure any of these are the exact colors we'll be using, they're just in the ballpark.
I think the sticks-and-light-screen could be a cool way to obscure the windows without covering them completely. Again, one of the best things about this apartment is the light we'll be getting so I don't want to always have the curtains covering the windows. Of course, there are times when I *will* want the curtains drawn and I can be forgetful, so a back up is not the worst idea.
Right now, this is the best furniture layout I've come up with, though I'm sure my dad will have a better idea.
That square with the giant question mark is dead space between the closets that I'm hoping I can just knock out so I can make a SUPER closet. But since that dead space is so big it's probably holding some kind of pipes or dead bodies or something. But I'm still going to ask the super or whatever. Because I need a SUPER CLOSET. This place has, like, 5 closets and four of them are linen/broom closets. Why? Just...why?
The bedroom and living room both don't have overhead lighting so here are some lamp ideas and a few other miscellaneous design inspirations. Most of the lamps I think I can DIY, more or less.
And finally, The Living Room!
Again, there's more mural inspiration, which will probably not happen since we have plenty of art and shelves we want to put on the walls. But, you know, just in case. This mural would be relatively easy, it would just be a lot of meticulous tape applying.
There's also some furniture projects. Johnny has a desk that could look like that one if I gave it a bit of a facelift. And we have some crappy old bookcases that would be more sturdy and attractive with new, brightly colored, backs. That couch could be faked with a boxy ikea couch and fancy looking side tables, which I *think* I can get someone to make for me. I'm not sure how much it would cost but I could make that mirror relatively easily with some custom cut acrylic from canal plastics.
The chairs will actually take some money and/or serendipity (and a craigslist alert) but we don't need those right away.
And here's the layout I like best so far. There's a TV area, a little reading nook, a toy area for Johnny, and an office/crafting table/sewing table area for me. And a few feet of blank wall space for taking photos! Oh yeah, I still want to do that. I've been talking about it for over a year, but that's the next project, once I get this shit together.
Obviously, this is a pretty damn ambitious design plan and I will probably run out of time/money/interest long before I get anywhere near these lofty ideals. But it's nice to dream. And I have a very long time to work on it.
