New year! New horizons! Same old KYOTO VIDEO!

Year 3 of KYOTO VIDEO is starting up and with it is the 50th episode of KYOTO VIDEO. Quite the milestone if I do say so myself. But don’t let that distract from the fact that there are plenty more where that came from.

So what do we have in store for months of February to April?

2/17/2020 – KYOTO VIDEO’S 50th EPISODE: It’s a surprise! ^_~

2/28/2020 – Sonic the Hedgehog: Since Sonic has a movie out this month, what better time than now to discuss that slice of 90s anime weirdness known as the Sonic OVA. We’ll sink our teeth deep into this hunk of glorious cheese as we explore the anime’s origins, talk my own experiences with the Sonic fandom and wonder what the deal is with Knuckle’s cowboy hat.

3/12/2020 – Burn Up!: Another classic of the tragically-dormant genre of “lady action”, Burn Up could’ve easily fallen by the wayside if it wasn’t for the fact that was the big seller that helped get a young distribution company called ADV Films off the ground. Does it hold up? Whatever the answer is, be prepared to hear a lot of Tiffany Grant and Amanda Winn Lee in this video.

3/26/2020 – The Humanoid: We go from 90s cheese all back to 80s cheese. And boy, do we got some prime 80s cheese to dig into! Possible one of the most notorious titles in the way of unapologetically 80s sci-fi anime, The Humanoid is a low-budget, high-concept melodrama that appeared to have a lot more going for it, but ultimately became title meant to fill space in video stores. Be sure to drink your coffee because it is gonna get wild!

4/16/2020 – Nineteen19: More 80s! But we go less from good ol’ 80s cheese into more of a calming snapshot of 80s. Based off a shonen romance manga, Nineteen19 is a lost 80s gem that takes an idealistic look at the era in which it was produced. We’ll discuss what makes this anime so amazing to look at as well dive into its thoughtful themes of growing up and finding love; all wrapped up in a plot about a guy wanting to lose his virginity.

4/30/2020 – Wicked City: Time to take our annual look at the oeuvre of our boy, Yoshiaki Kawajiri. This time with his big break! The stylish 1987 supernatural thriller, Wicked City, is an all-time retro anime classic. Why is that? Can’t just be through all the blood or the hot spider-lady with the vagina-mouth. There’s definitely more that makes Wicked City a truly classy brand of ultra-violence. Be warned though: there will be naked old man ass.
