Tears of Magic - Whispering Clan

A race of anthropomorphic trees. They live deep in the Elderwood Forest and have a close relationship with the Archdruid, from the Longear Clan. They can live for thousands of years, but are only mobile during their youth, until they grow roots and become part of the Elderwood Forest. During their mobile time, they travel to collect knowledge around the world. Memories of their travels are stored in their leaves, which they usually never shed.

They don't speak human language, but can communicate through sounds produced by the rustling of their leaves. Only the Archdruid knows the "language of the forest", sharing knowledge with the Whispering Clan and protecting the Elderwood Forest from outsiders.

Since they are older than most clans, people have learned to respect and ignore wandering saplings during their journeys. The "watchers", as they are called during that stage, usually just observe people working and the movement in towns, showing special interest in all kinds of books.
