Hey folks, if you remember some old messages on the discord server about phasing out the 5 and 6 star tiers, I’m finally going through with it this month.
What’s happening?
- The 5 star tier will be unpublished from the time of posting (this will mean the tier will not be viewable to prospective patrons looking at my page) and on April 29th the 5 star tier will be deleted from my list of tiers (this will mean that current patrons on that tier will have their tier revoked but NOT have their pledge revoked). Any and all owed sketch rewards from April to any month in the past will still be recognized and you can dm me at any point in the future to claim a sketch piece from me. Tiers 1-4 will not be changed in any way and the 6 star tier will not be changed in any way this month
Why is the 5 star tier being removed?
- Taking a look at my current prices of my current 5 star tier compared to the amount of work I would want to put into each sketch and the amount of slots I allotted for folks to take a monthly sketch I realized that 1. I can’t keep up with my current workload of patron rewards and commissions to make what I need to make each month AND not fall behind on rewards further and further each month. And 2. The amount of time I put into sketch rewards (essentially an entire day’s worth of work) is just not worth the $25. While I would love to keep making the more experimental pieces for patrons, the price doesn’t justify taking so many days out of each month to work on them. I have a major move coming up and I can’t justify the time when I need to help pay for a myriad of new expenses.
What should I do?
- 5 star patrons who still wish to support me without desiring a monthly sketch can still pledge to any of my lower tiers. If you don’t want to pledge to me without receiving a monthly sketch reward you can absolutely leave with no ill feelings. If you still wish to support me with $25 a month after April from a lower tier, I believe you can create a custom pledge from the settings of your patreon account and increase the amount from there to however much you desire. (Which I would be very thankful for ^^)
What will happen if I don’t do anything?
- Because Patreon has a policy of not messing with the pledges of other patrons even if a creator deletes a tier, patrons who were originally at the 5 star tier after deletion will be marked as patrons of no tier at a pledge of $25. Most likely this means being automatically booted from the patreon server if you did not manually click the link to join since no tier patrons do not get discord benefits. If you don’t wish to pledge $25 to me with no compensation or official tier I suggest you move to a lower tier or unpledge. Again no ill feelings ^^.
Will there be a replacement tier? / What if I’m still interested in sketch rewards?
- After April I intend on creating a new 5 star tier without a reward and with the same discount and priority given to commissions, whether or not I will feel ready in the future for the task of giving out monthly sketch rewards at a higher price is still up in the air.
What’s your other future plans?
- For May I intend to retire the 6 star tier as well, of which I’ll announce the timeline with another post. Like this time, I’ll recognize all owed 6 star tier rewards including those for the month of May once I write up the post. The reason why I’m spacing out tier deletion is so I don’t rock the boat too much within a single month, since pledges from patreon are currently 1/3rd of my total income.
I’ll be making another post as a reminder to move down to a lower tier or unpledge in the second half of this month! I want to give folks as much time as possible to take whatever course of action they desire.
