On their second day in Ann Arbor, Robbie got to wear his favorite battlemon pajama shirt to breakfast.
"You all ready for the day?" asked Colt, smiling as Robbie did an adorable little stretch and yawn.
"Yup! I'm gonna need lotsa coffee to wake up, though."
"Coffee? Don't be silly," said Colt, shocked at the suggestion. "You're too little for coffee. Hold on a sec... are you giggling? Are you messing with me?"
Colt emphasized his words like people often do for young ones, and Robbie giggled uncontrollably at Daddy's silly reaction. Of course he knew he couldn't have coffee, but sometimes it just felt good to hear it.
"You'll get a bottle of milk instead, how about it?" asked Colt.
Robbie nodded. "I like milk, but... uh..." he lowered his voice. "Can't I at least get it in a sippy cup?"
"Well, I dunno," said Colt, scratching his chin.
"Oh please, please, please!" begged Robbie.
"Oh, alright, kiddo. You know I can't say no to you. Sippy cups it is."
"Yay!"
Once again Colt chuckled at his boy's reaction. Just yesterday it had been a struggle to get Rob to use a sippy cup. By dangling the possibility of a bottle instead, suddenly a sippy cup didn't seem so bad. Worked every time.
"Well, what are we gonna wear today, hmmm?"
Colt had already picked his outfit - a gray tanktop and blue/green plaid pajama pants. Robbie looked at the options from his suitcase and picked...
"Battlemon!" Robbie loved his oversized Battlemon t-shirt. Colt had given it to him, so it was extra special.
"Okay, okay," said Colt, chuckling as Robbie practically vibrated off the bed while Colt held up the shirt. "Arms up, silly boy."
Robbie stuck his arms up into the air and Colt slipped the shirt right over his head.
"Alright Daddy, now for the pajama pants, right?"
Colt looked at Robbie.
"Now for the pajama pants... right?"
"Hehe, no way, silly boy. You never wear pants with this shirt at home. It's your pajama shirt!"
"Eh..." Robbie looked nervous.
"This shirt goes down to your knees, kiddo. You've got nothing to worry about."
"B-but what if they see?" asked Robbie.
"Nothing," said Colt. "They all know you wear diapers. It makes sense they'd see them sooner or later."
"But-"
"And they all saw at dinner yesterday and nothing happened."
"Yeah, but-"
"But nothing, little guy. We already agreed that you shouldn't change your behavior because of what other people might think. Besides, your brother said you should be yourself, didn't he?"
Robbie knew he wasn't going to win this argument, and it didn't really matter at that point because Colt picked him up and brought him out into the hallway.
"Let me down! I can walk."
"You sure about that? You better not run because if you do you'll be crawling for the day. I even brought your mitts and booties to make sure."
Robbie blushed, remembering the week he was kept as a crawling baby.
"I won't run. I promise."
"Alright. You better not," said Colt, letting Robbie down gently. "You just hold my hand just in case. I don't want you tripping down the stairs."
"Geez, Daddy," said Robbie, walking toward the staircase on his own. "I can walk down the stairs without tri-whoa!"
"Gotcha!" said Colt, grabbing Robbie before he could stumble and fall. He held fast to Robbie's hand and guiding him down the stairs with his other arm around Robbie's waist for security. "You were saying?"
Robbie didn't try any more backtalk on the way to breakfast.
"Welcome to breakfast, sleepyhead," said Andy, looking up from his paper when they arrived to the breakfast nook. He had a half drunk cup of coffee and half eaten plate with eggs and toast on it. "Hi Colt. You finally got him up, huh?"
Colt nodded. "Yeah, I figured it was time. Where's everyone else?"
"Well, Mom and Dad are in the living room with Reina, the kids are playing in the playroom next to that, Roger and Roy are both still asleep, presumably.
"Sounds like it runs in the family, said Colt, with a smirk as he looked down at Robbie.
"Well, hang on and I'll get you something ot eat," said Andy.
"Don't you dare!" said Reina, walking into the room. "Hey you two. I heard you come down. Want some eggs and toast?"
The two of them were happy to accept.
"And how about some coffee?"
"I'll take one," said Colt. "No coffee for the little guy."
Reina giggled. "How about tea then?"
"Thanks, love," said Andy. "She won't let me cook," he said conspiratorially before gesturing to the seats. "SIt, sit. Please."
"Right, we'll have a seat," said Colt, pulling out a chair.
"Unless you want a high chair..." Andy said, grinning. When he caught Robbie's blush, he continued, "We could, you know... we've got one stored away in-"
"N-no thanks," said Robbie, his face beet red. "I'll just sit..."
"In Daddy's lap," said Colt, pulling Robbie into his lap. "It's my lap or a highchair from now on. No repeats of yesterday's fiasco, yeah?"
The speechless Robbie just sat there in Colt's lap, unable to speak. He was both embarrassed and relieved to be in Daddy's lap. It felt safe there, even if it did make him as red as a tomato in front of his Brother and his sister-in-law.
The two of them didn't seem to mind though, and Reina was happy to grab Robbie a bib when the food came, while Colt cut it up for him. Colt then fork-fed the food to Robbie, refusing to let the boy feed himself.
The last straw, though, was when the milk appeared in a bottle without either of them even asking. "There ya go, sweetie," said Reina. "It's all warmed up for you."
Robbie practically melted from embarassment as Colt laid Robbie in his lap and bottle-fed him.
"So cute!" said Andy, who pulled out his phone.
"Noommpph!" said Robbie, protesting before Colt re-inserted the nipple.
"Drink," said Colt. "Be a good boy and drink. No talking."
"It's okay, lil bro. I just wanted to rememeber this. It's too cute not to."
Poor Robbie had no choice but to let Colt bottle-feed him right there in full view of anyone who was nearby. And of course he hoped that no one else did pass by.
"That's my good boy," said Colt, patting the front of Robbie's diaper, which was already warming up to make room for more warm liquid in his tummy.
The warm milk, the snug diaper, and Colt's warmth, his patting hands helped Robbie relax a bit, and gradually, with the help of a steady stream of soft encouraging words from Colt, Robbie began to relax and nurse in earnest, closing his eyes in bliss as the warm sweet liquid hig his tongue and he swallowed. Before he knew it, he had finished the whole bottle, and Colt was already burping him.
"There we go! Much better, isn't it Robbie?"
Robbie blushed and nodded. Then he noticed that they had gained a bit of an audience and he hid his face in his hands.
"Oh, hey guys!" said Colt, noticing that a few more family members had popped into the room. Then he tapped his ear.
"Hold on a sec, I gotta go upstairs real quick. Robbie, you be good while I'm gone, okay?"
Robbie rolled his eyes. "Daddyyyy... I don't need a babysitter."
"You're right, because you have several right here!"
That drew chuckles from the others in the room, and Robbie was left to blush and be fawned over as Colt went upstairs.
Colt, ascended the stairs as quietly as he could, so as not to disturb anyone in the rooms. That was important because his ear pod told him there was someone upstairs who he didn't want to disturb.
Colt crept down the hall, and finally made it to the nursery. He turned the knob to open the door, and went in.
"Well, well, well. I thought I might find you in here..." said Colt as he shut the door behind him.
