It was interesting to go back to these earlier variations of the story and see what changed, especially what changed so close to the released version.
Thresa's confrontation with the goddess is what went through the biggest metamorphosis. You can see the original version stayed the same all the way from thumbnails to even some inked pages (the photo pages were all digital, except for the word balloons).
For example: initially the goddess both appeared to be pregnant and also appeared to have an erect penis. This made sense for how Thresa's conversation with her went in the earlier version -- Thresa's rage was never directed at her. He was comforted by the duality of her body.
When I wrote the final version of the scene, VERY close to when I submitted the comic, I wanted Thresa to feel alienated and angry at the goddess. At that point didn't feel right for her to have physical kinship with him beyond being the site of his birth and a reminder of his plight.
I've also included the roughs for the initial confrontation scene at the end of the "pencils" pdf. I think I've already posted them in a sketchbook a while back, but I figured I'd include them again.
