It’s been a while since I posted. I hurt myself last month in a stupid accident so I haven’t been as productive as I’d like but things are moving along. I can now sit at my computer without extreme pain again so I’m back at it with more regular hours. I did quite a bit of dev work and writing this month.
The 3D project and the html are both near some substantial updates.
First up we have the 3D demo that’s getting closer to something I am willing to show publicly. It still has a lot of issues but it is getting fleshed out with each release.
I finally managed to fix the music bugs that were driving me nuts. So the music playlists should now be functioning properly and will no longer repeat the last song endlessly. I spent a lot of time searching for music for the project so I hope that it adds something to the atmosphere. I’d like to buy a few more licenses and get some more themes for different characters and moods. The current opening theme is a bit mournful yet has a kind of romantic melody so I intend to use it on a few of Samantha’s routes where appropriate. Mitch’s music choice is meant to convey danger and attitude.
I touched up a lot of graphics and added a lot of new CG and voice lines to the game. I narrowed down an AI voice for Tim but for some reason it isn’t locking the pitch properly so it needs an update. I found an okay one for Julie but I haven’t found one that clicked yet. I want her to have a haughty hotty voice. I also selected a new voice and hairstyle for Yellow Potion Taylor that will be in the next version of the demo. You can find some of the audio samples in the voice folder under the designation “yp” and a preview picture above.
I have a giant hodge podge of 3D assets I’m trying to sort through so that I can make the best graphics possible as efficiently as possible. There is still a bunch of work to do on the system and a few final bugs to iron out but I am close to having everything I need to make the full game and I will keep trying to improve over time. I bought another drive and the last hardware upgrade I need today that has been slowing production. I will do the install tonight.
I added Evan’s date scene and the movie night to the 3D game but it is still missing some lead up graphics. My goal is to finish the demo with all of its endings and content (including CG) next month.
I have now finished enough 3D courses and tutorials now that I am confident I have the basic skills I need to finish the game.
On the html and general writing front, I have a really spiffy update almost finished. I wrote Louise content and group activities this week. I closed a couple dead ends. I am also working on expanding the area where Taylor opts out of a lot of encounters in favor of solving the mystery and revealing a few of the secrets behind the Transfigure mystery.
I still have to do a play test and write a few connection scenes but I suspect .60 will be out next week.
I’ve done a fair bit of hummingbird writing the past couple years and when I add it all up I am at about 900,000 words for the Transfigure story document, or about 30% more than exists in the base game. Although much of it is unreleased, I would estimate I am 80-85% finished. I am really excited to share some of my favorite scenes this year! I know it has been a long wait but I will make it worth it.
Thank you for your support!
