The Trial of Dicks

This isn’t the story about a court case where a bunch of politicians go to jail or a gay hazing challenge, no, this is the tale of how I spent more than two weeks of my life learning how to make genitalia. I did this because I want my game to look as appealing as possible and because a lot of 3D models do not have genitals, genital textures, or a reasonable way to make any realistic modifications.

So I spent some money. I scoured forums. I watched tutorials. I downloaded mods. I experimented. I remember I spent an entire day trying to get Mr. Deter to not have a cardboard penis. It was at this time I realized I have a truly strange job. I failed that day but I wasn’t discouraged because I still had a dozen things to try. When I exhausted those leads the next day, I researched more and finally I ended up with a working system and the ability to create aesthetic genitalia for various characters.

This should pay off in the coming years. There are still a few texture modification and blending tricks I need to try out but they aren’t necessary at the moment now that I have some basic models.

In the examples below (or above?) you can see the differences between what I consider the three tiers of quality:

The default anatomy with loosely matched skin textures, the weird looking but popular purple headed monster of choice of most 3D adult artists of the past few years, and the hugely upgraded and expanded version of the previous system with a lot of mods.

I also looked through a lot of the best 3D art on the net and made notes so I’m trying to raise my game as quickly as possible to those higher levels.
