Greetings!
The update is done! Whooo. It became a monstrosity but it is finally in a releasable state including most of the things I wanted it to have. I wanted the release to reflect the extra time so it is above average for length and variety. This was definitely a hard one to get out so thanks for not revolting on me!
Production wise, the past month I put in a fair number of hours doing organizational and prep work. It’s boring but necessary stuff to finish everything up and hopefully produce some future updates that are less time intensive. I also did about a dozen hours of editing and probably double that on creative writing across several arcs, mainly Natalie, TVT, Craig, and the card worship content I’ve had in development for about three years. I wish I could have focused more on release content and not just generic things that need doing but I was trying to ease my way back into a productive groove. I think I managed to do just that. I’ve been writing every day and trying to get content finished for everyone to read.
My life’s been a bit shitty lately so I really appreciated all the encouraging messages people sent me recently. I’m humbled that I have earned the support of so many great individuals. You’re more than my patrons. You’re my friends. I might not make much money doing this but at least I am overpaid in love.
As everyone has probably noticed it seems like updates are taking slightly longer to produce. That and I suck at communicating. I’ve written at least 5 blog posts this year that I never posted just because the info quickly gets out of date and all my estimates lately have tended to be way off. I want to give you content and not excuses. Part of the reason is that updates are more complex than when I first started, meaning there is more media per update and more editing of that media and the writing itself so what was once a 40 hour update (building on previously written work) is now taking me about 50-60 hours on average to make it from scratch. I think .51 has over 150 hours directly on it. The project in total has much more in that same time period. I have also taken my community management hours and put them into writing at the expense of attracting pledges. I try to respond to every message but it will take me a bit to get caught up. So that makes things seem even more dead, but I feel obligated to not only get these updates out but to also make them good enough that I want to read them myself. This often leads me to delaying content that needs polish.
There are more steps before a release including a photoshop pass on the media. So in general, I think users should notice an increase over quality compared to releases of previous years. As I’ve learned more and improved my dev speed has gone up (as the app speed has fallen due to the size) but my standards have also risen more than that offset. I’ve spent a lot of time the past year trying to upgrade the existing media and adding more to the sparse areas. The other part of the apparent lethargy is that like most months before it is half over I’ve already put in all my paid hours into the project without producing a full release worth of content. So I am kind of put in the position where I have to write even more in order to prevent myself from falling further behind as the monthly release treadmill goes on no matter what I do.
The rest is just me suckin’ away.
In terms of development another part of the slowness is I have several poll winners and the like that have built up a bit which in turn redirects time into more skews that never quite get finished. I have the content coming but it takes time. I do honestly try my best but there is a practical limit to the time I can put into this in a given month. I am writing like seventy storylines at once which is insane but also a big part of the allure of writing for a big project like this.
Considering the resources I have I think I do pretty darn good productivity wise. I may be a hummingbird but I’m a person too so sometimes I can’t produce at the rates both you and I would like me to. Sometimes due to my full time workload and real life issues it’s not feasible to add an extra full week in there of additional writing on top of what I already do. For the past three and a half years I’ve been fine putting a lot of my free time into the project but this year there isn’t much of that. A lot of my friends think I am nuts for putting so much effort into this project relative to the small amount of money it has brought in but that doesn’t discourage me. I work on Transfigure for all of you. I do this because of my patrons and readers that have encouraged me to pursue my unique creative vision that I believe will ultimately become a very successful and high quality visual novel. If I can pull off that lofty goal I hope to benefit along with the community so that we can make even more cool things.
Anyway, I’m trying to be more clear on what I’m doing and post more frequently.I hope that helps clarify some things that have been brought up in comments and discussions recently.
In other news, it has been pointed out to me the tfgameshost site for Transfigure (the play now / online version) is down. I reached out to the admin and have been looking into alternatives. I also have a bare site for Tango Fiction but it is somewhat pointless at the moment and it got put on the back burner until I finish more content. If anyone has a recommendation for a host or some ideas how to set a server host up that would be appreciated. I think it makes the most sense to just add the game to the site I am setting up but I am not sure how that works in terms of FTP or bandwidth etc.
Okay let’s talk about something more fun! A new release!!
In this update we have some content long awaited by an estimated three to seven people - the most popular character in the world according to himself returns, the great Zen Master Peeshi! Woooooo! Beyond that I added some more content on the “two friends” path to make up for the awkward ending I left it with last time.
Sponsored by Director Maiden, we have the first part of an extended yellow potion adventure where Taylor gets picked up by an older couple and things get naughty.
Then to top off this blob of an update, we also have a taste of new content in the Craig section and the introduction of a character I’ve been trying to add since launch - Sophie.
There’s a bunch of different topics and themes present including some infantilization, spanking, and diaper play.
I am sorry for not being more productive but I have a lot of great endings and content on the way. I wanted this update to be longer but I did my best. It is what it is. I hope you find something you like.
Love,
Tango
