Q: I heard you use the term “True end” - what does this mean? What can you tell us about Transfigure’s endings?

A: The “true ends" as I call them are ends 1-12 that were the original endings for the game that I wrote when I finished designing the project. I changed it recently so ending #1 is the official ending to Transfigure (originally it was #11 I think in the previews I put out). The dozen trues are long and fairly complex but that doesn't make the other 90+ endings any less special or loved.

All these “outsider” endings started to get penciled in by necessity as I rapidly expanded the project and I tried to wrangle the spaghetti from all the unfinished paths into their proper channels. The alt routes have to go places too :D

The “True” ends are important to me because they fill out the main branches and the heart of the project. The dozen endings were written to be very different from each other, balanced with unique and often opposing themes. Experiencing all twelve of them should evoke some interesting thoughts about the path life takes based on the decisions we make and the people we meet. I think the true ends sum up what I am trying to accomplish with the narrative.

The only other noticeable difference between the true ends and the new ends is the additions are sometimes shorter and concerned with more of the random topics and outcomes/character pairings that show up later on.

I thought about my personal favorite endings within the entire project and I’d say 3 or 4 out of 5 were on the outsider ending list so there is lots of great stuff to come. Most projects die before getting to this point but I think I pulled through because I have so many endings I have been working towards like a pot of gold at the end of a distant rainbow.

For those curious, Transfigure has ten endings in game (potential spoilers in the next line): End 6: Hedonist (Mitch), End 11: Damien’s Little Girl, End 15: Concert Blackmail (Dunko’s End), End 16: The Nuthouse, End 17: Stockholm Syndrome, End 18: Untimely Death, End 19: Jailhouse Blues, End 23: Repopulating the New World…,  End 27: Lucas’ Private Slave, End 28: A failure of willpower (Lucas)

I hope to add three more in the next update.
