I explained to him that it can be really jarring. Vulva images are rarely photographs. In educational settings they're line drawings or computer graphics. For a woman, especially, to know that they all look so different and how those differences aren't wrong or bad is monumental.
It's why Laci Green's video on Freaky Labia and Stevie Boebi's on Smelly Vaginas do so well. We aren't taught to be confident about our own bodies and we're further troubled by the lack of representation so access to new messages and representation is really cool.
My hope is that you, the audience, receives this video well. That you recognize our intentions and value our efforts to get permission from the artists, Nick Karras and Jamie McCartney, and YouTube.
Even more so I hope that the video boosts your confidence, vulva or not, that you practice loving your genitals and caring for them like Stevie models so wonderfully, and you stay curious.
Warmly,
Lindsey
