Sometimes there are people or organizations who want something to die. But rather than come out and say that they cleverly word legislation to look like do-gooders and dupe the public into killing whatever it is they oppose. This is often the case with abortion legislation. This year in California it's an attack on pornography.

If you don't know already, I have two episodes about porn, my thoughts and what the research shows are the effects of it on consumers. Basically it can serve valuable purposes but isn't for everyone.

When I learned the porn industry is at risk, I reacted in the best way I know how: do my own research, talk to the people in the industry, and make a video about it. So thanks to your generous donations and the interviewees who shared their experiences, I present to you Prop60 and the reasons to vote NO.

Don't let this pass. Don't be duped. Stay curious. Always.

Here's what I posted on Tumblr about it:

A few weeks ago I was given the amazing honor to interview Dr. Hernando Chaves and eight a amazing people who perform in pornography for a living. What I learned is that one, they all love their jobs and two, they’re afraid of the consequences if Proposition 60 passes in California.

Prop 60 looks great at first glance. A ‘yes’ according to Ballotopedia, would require use of condoms and other protective measures in porn. So it’s easy to think that’s great for the performers and beneficial to the audience. Condoms become an automatic part of pleasure and everyone behaves healthier.

Unfortunately there is far more to the issue than the proponents want you to know about. Voting ‘yes’ takes away the right to choose the best preventative measures for you and your sexual activity. Voting ‘yes’ incentivizes spectators to file lawsuits, giving them access to performers’ legal names and address in addition to a % of the settlement. Voting ‘yes’ tells an industry that has been incredibly successful at protecting itself that we know better than they do, which we certainly do not.

So when I found all this out I made an unusual decision for Sexplanations: discuss politics and devote an episode to fighting against Prop60.

I hope you like, share, and comment on this video. If nothing else, stay curious.
