Alabama. I have two seventeen year old daughters who are graduating from high school this year and I've been telling myself, since I started fostering them in 2013, that I would leave Missoula when they were finished with school and ready to be independent. Missoula is beautiful at this time of year; the sky is cornflower blue and my yard is full of blooming perennials I work really hard to care for. I'm not ready to leave right now but I've set November as a launch date. Where to?
On my Want list is a blue city in a red state where I can be around like-minded people but still make a difference in the lives of people who need sex education onsite. I also want much more sun than I get here, so something along the upper part of the south seems appealing. Southern California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina are the most intriguing. Some are easier places to be than others but they all have needs and gifts. As you can imagine there's a lot of discomfort around choosing where to go and sorting through my intentions.
It also brings up the quandary of going on tour. A great way to determine my new place is to try them out and a great way to do that is to take Sexplanations on tour. Hannah Hart did a really effective version of this years back. I'd love to pull it off but again, there's uncertainty. How do I do it? Logistically I know nothing of these things except to ask Hannah and or Hank, ask/hire help to organize it all, and then go. Okay that seems reasonable. But what do YOU think?
Do I rally for a sprinter van and drive across the country doing Sexplanations Live at every venue that'll have me? How to I fund it? What does it mean for Sexplanations the show?
Currently I'm working on busting out episodes so I can do Vidcon, an Idaho rafting trip, and a family reunion this summer without falling behind. It's tough. Imagining having to be months ahead is kind of daunting. Not impossible though so if you think it can be done, let's do it.
Next on the brain: a website. I purchased drlindseydoe.com and sexplanations.com but they're kind of just sitting there. I have these elaborate plans for them but no skill set. There was a really amazing fan of Sexplanations guiding me through a lot of it but ultimately the process means a lot of focus which I don't know how to give in my balanced life.
If you have ideas here, I'd love to have them. I did hire a personal assistant once but it didn't work out and now I'm shy about working with someone new. That Lindsey Doe is so human.
Many of you think talking about sex is hard. I can do that. All the management stuff? That's what kicks my butt.
Anyway, I'm tired and rest will bring a clear mind. I like talking to you though and letting you share the problem solving sex education on this planet. I like knowing that I'm not alone. I don't have to have the answers right now and whatever happens will be okay. We've already made an impressive impact. I'm doing the best I can. And I will stay curious.
Thanks for listening and again, if you have ideas I'm all for it.
Ever so warmly,
your humble sexologist Lindsey
