Hi there everyone! Weeds are not killed by the frost.
I've wrote some post along these two months and publish none, as I was not sure of what path to take. Sometimes there is no easy path to accomplish your deed, Sir Patrik knows.
1. I've made a decision.
Even if I can change my mind at any point, but I usually don't backtrack from my words, is this:
I'm going to keep working on BFL with patreon paused until I finish Chapter 3, when I'll release the game on Steam as an Early Access (half game), or as a complete part 1 one game with save game transfer compatibility for a second part (I don't know that yet, and I don't care right now.)
I'm working on other stuff to keep the income up a bit (My 3d model selling stuff and other business), so I have less time to work on BFL. I'm also taking more time for me and my kid.
I'm going to take the slow pace and extra time to remodel BFL coding logic, and that's quite important and will take time. Some features requieres a lot of recoding and making that compatible with usual release has become impossible. This will allow me to work on graphics in everyplace of the game, same as when I started, with no rush to release little parts of an unfinished whole, thing that doesn't go with me.
So BFL advance will go slow. And the first next release will take time, as I want to make all the recoding before. That means go every back every place and every scene and change code, and lot of testing, and one I can only do myself. So I'll be happy having time to do that without no one looking over my shoulder.
2. Some Announces to make my life WAY MORE easier.
-There is not going to be MAC or Linux versions until game is finished. Production cost is not worth for the 0.1% of 0.1% of players that use those platforms. (Also, lack of testers to quiclky iterate)
-I'm going to remove all technical features that were never meant to be in the game and that only produces bugs or bad game experiences (like completly deactivate the text scrolling.... You can just put the scroll speed to max, good dammit)
-I'll see with speed modes. Probably I'll leave them for debug-testing purposes but if someone speaks about a bug related with speed modes, he'll die in endless pain. Once the game is complete, I'll see what happens with speed modes.
-We can have a talk about what features I don't remove.
-I'm not going to make compatibility save fixe safeguards. They're and endless bughunt. That means that If I screw it breaking saving, We're all screwed and you'll have to start again. This don't mean anything... Of course I'll try for updates to be compatible, I'm just saying I swear nothing.
3. If anyone is interested on my train of thought since September:
1. After analyzing why I burst back before September, I concluded that was because since I've been delayed by problems since December 2020 (vram -> eyes -> house stuff, yadayadayada), I had less time and less time for myself, to do my usual stuff that makes me chill (play some game from time to time, prototype other game ideas, work on other things, etc...) and allowed me some pressure relief from the amazing but slow and bugfull world of game making.
2. After that realization, I started to take for myself, and do all the stuff I've not done in all year. Including working a bit for money xD.
3. I'm still on it and I only work on BFL when I really don't feel like doing anything else.
4. I wanted so hard to work in chapter 3 since December, when I started working on it, but all the damn problems didn't let me. That was a big problem. Chapter 3 was my goal. Here the snowball started.
4. I'm veeery slowly working finishing the promised Heir Specials and a pending Duke Commision. For that I only need the final animations, and the Heir Specials will be finished some day I feel like that. (Sorry for those delays... I don't like to be delayed, but well.)
5. The Bad Part:
-Not having extra money to pay for Mega, Discord, and specially Adobe Photoshop/AffterEffects is a big problem, but... I'll think on it another day. I'm great thinking in problems another day.
About that:
-Patreon bills new pledges. I thank you for your support. Everyone new is welcomed to pledge and have a good look at all the material posted here. As said... I'll slowly post more stuff, but as you see, my mind is quite on other place right now. I've not looked at how many patreons I have since July 2020, and I'm not looking now. Thanks for those whom stay around; I don't want nothing more than keep delivering our game.
6. Bad Year, Worst months.
I have no intention of bother you with my problems Again, but I'll explain the render:
Between firsts of September and firsts of November my flat has flooded 3 times, (like... Very flooded) everytime that has rained hard. (hence the render). Insurance companies were supposed to fix some problems since July, but they're useless. Just two days ago finally looks like the plumbing is fixed. At least I will be able to stop doing the night watch when it rains.
Don't worry, luckly all my electronics were high over the ground so there were no damage on anything important (thanks god... Only the doors and some furniture needs replacing).
This is just Another thing more on the pile of random problems I'm facing this year. xD I'm not in the best place. I used September practically to mentally recover.
But I'm better every day, but is a mentally slow process.
7. I understand that those who may want to keep helping may want more information.
Like... What are we talking about for next release? 10 years? 3 months?. Can I help you with moneyz? Do you need something?
I have no answers for you. Give me time; Nothing last forever!
