Refined sketch style for concept art?

I really like the premise of a style like this, where you do basically a contour sketch with a ball-point pen type brush, where the focus isn't on line weight or making sure the lines cleanly connect to each other or the colors perfectly fit within the bounds, but rather you are focused on just getting an idea across. I have seen many artists pull this off and it looks incredible, as well as being super efficient for being able to run through lots of different drawings quickly and make multiple characters or iterations of a character to practice concept art and character design. Because of that, I really wanna learn how to make it work, but every time I try it, I feel like it just looks super amateur-esk......
