"Z-Zoe?" Hannah sniffed, finally able to bring herself to sleep, after the mortification of having her friend open up her diaper, wipe her clean, and start powdering her up. A part of Hannah didn't want to speak ever again, especially not to Zoe, but the simple, nonplussed way Zoe did it all both emboldened her, making her think it might not be as bad, and terrified her, since she should surely find this as strange as Hannah herself did.
"Yeah, sweetie?" Zoe smiled down at her. "What's up?"
"Umm..." Hannah squirmed, wondering how to phrase it, exactly. "Y-You don't think this is... weird?" she asked after a moment.
Zoe tilted her head slightly. "What?"
"This!" Hannah gestured at herself, at the fresh package of diapers sitting beside her, straight out of her mother's car. "You, changing my d-diapers... Me, being treated like a baby..."
Zoe taped the new diaper into place, picking up the old one, wrapped up around itself perfectly. She raised an eyebrow as she let her hand sink under the weight of it, and Hannah wanted very badly to tell her that wasn't her fault... But she couldn't quite remember why, and Zoe should have known that already anyway, shouldn't she? She had just changed Hannah, after all... The diaper did look lumpy, the padding obviously soggy, proving she'd definitely wet it at the playground, if not more...
Hannah groaned, looking away from it, and back down at herself, where the most obvious thing to take in was the fresh diaper. They felt so soft, even more than the one she'd just been in, and she was certain they crinkled even louder as she fidgeted on the changing table. "W-We used to go to high school together, didn't we?" she sniffled desperately, trying to make Zoe remember. "You, me, and... him?"
"Huh?" Zoe chuckled. "Sweetie, you aren't even allowed into kindergarten if you're still in diapers! There's no way you've ever been in high school!"
Hannah felt the tears start to flow then, trailing down her cheeks, the answer feeling like a punch in the gut. She was positive she'd been out of diapers at some point, that she was a big girl who had been to high school... But, if that was the truth, why couldn't she even recall the name of Zoe's boyfriend? He made her feel so strange... Maybe that didn't mean anything, and yet, somehow, she was sure he'd been very important to her...
"Oh, Hannah," Zoe pursed her lips, staring down at her, shifting in place uncomfortably. "Don't cry... It's okay..." She paused, seeming to think about something, then sighed. "You're right," she admitted. "We did go to high school together."
"W-We did?" Hannah blinked, wiping her eyes clumsily.
"We did," Zoe confirmed. "And, sweetie... I know why things are like this."
"Y-You do?" Hannah's eyes widened. That was a good first step to stopping it...
"I know this is hard, but all you have to do is give in to it. If you let yourself accept this, and act babyish, it will all go away."
Could that be true? It did make sense, in a way... That was something she hadn't really tried. And, while her memories were fuzzy, to the point where she'd almost thought it was a dream, Zoe had saved the high school, back in their first year, hadn't she? She'd used some sort of magic, and Hannah had been the only one to see, so she'd been sworn to secrecy... And, honestly, after what had happened to her lately, she wasn't sure why she hadn't realized that had happened, too, and not been in her imagination. Magic had to exist; what else would explain the world seeing her as a baby?! "B-But why did it happen?" she whined.
"You must have upset some fairy," Zoe shrugged. "Or a witch. Either way, though, if you stop fighting, the curse should wear off."
Hannah pouted, looking down at her stupid, soft diapers. "Fine," she huffed. "I'll try..."
It wasn't easy to remember that decision, however, when Zoe took her downstairs, and Hannah saw her friend's boyfriend, sitting on the sofa, the shopping bags all brought in and piled up. She froze on the spot, hands nervously tugging on the hem of her skirt... But, after a moment, she reminded herself of what she was going to do. She was supposed to accept that she was a 'baby', and to a baby, having him see how many diapers her mom had bought for her was no big deal... And a diaper flash wouldn't be, either.
She pried her hands away from her skirt, toddling closer to him, sitting down next to him on the couch, giggling nervously when he turned and smiled at her. "Hey, there," he said. "Here, why don't we put this on?" He picked up the remote, switching it over from sports to a kids' channel.
"Y-Yay," she replied weakly, trying to pretend she was excited to watch cartoons. If she was a baby, of course she would have been... Her eyes darted towards the kitchen, where Zoe had gone to, after dropping her off. She could see her friend and her mom in there, getting things out of the fridge, at the stove, apparently making lunch.
She scooted a little closer to the girl's boyfriend, blushing slightly as she heard her diaper rustle. He didn't seem to notice, either the movement or the sound, and Zoe definitely didn't come racing to see what was going on, so she did it again, edging nearer and nearer, until she was almost right on top of him, her heart racing to have him so near.
Zoe still hadn't seen, or didn't care... And, Hannah reasoned, a toddler didn't know about boundaries. A toddler wouldn't care to get closer, still, to crawl up onto his lap... Her diaper sounded especially loud, and she could hear him chuckle uncomfortably, but it was hard to be too bothered as she snuggled against his warm, muscular chest...
And then, Zoe finally did appear, announcing, "Time for lunch, you two! Come on, Hannah!" She took Hannah's hand, leading her to the table, nibbling on her thumb the whole way... Until she heard her friend whisper to her boyfriend, "I think Hannah has a little crush on you. Isn't that cute?"
Hannah blushed, the nibbling turning into a sucking before she could stop herself. That was nothing compared to how red her face got a moment later, as her mother took her from Zoe, and almost immediately whisked her dress off, right in front of the other two, leaving her in just her big, poofy diaper. "She is such a messy eater," she explained. "I don't want her spilling on her dress like she did on her pajamas this morning."
She got a bib tied around her neck, though that barely helped as her mother helped her up into her high chair. She blushed, feeling the bulk of her diaper, so big and thick, seeming to fill up the entire seat of the high chair, giving her so very little room to wiggle, though it didn't stop her. She blushed, hearing it rustling loudly as she tried to get comfortable, one thumb somehow back in her mouth as she stared down at the infantile garment around her waist, trying to remember if her last diapers had been this difficult.
"Well?" her mother smiled. "Do you like it?" Hannah stared up at her dumbly for a moment, until the woman gave the diaper a pat, before sliding the tray into place.
Hannah wanted very badly to say no, but she was supposed to be giving in, so she nodded. "Th-They're the best we've tried so far," she told her mom. "Th-They're so soft, and crinkly... I-I love them, Mommy!"
"Wonderful!" her mom nodded. "It's a good thing I got so many, then!"
"Y-Yeah," Hannah gulped, not sure if it was okay to think about how it wouldn't matter if she got out of this... If she was accepting this, the way she was supposed to, she wouldn't be thinking about that, would she?
She also wouldn't think too much about how Zoe decided to feed her, instead of letting her do it herself, or how she'd been given mushy baby food, instead of the real stuff she could see on everyone else's plates. She tried to just accept it, to eat... But it became much harder when Zoe's boyfriend finished his lunch, and Zoe suggested, "Here, why don't you take over for me so I can eat?"
Hannah gulped, trying not to stare up at him, with him so close, but it was a challenge... In all honesty, though, it got easier as he distracted her more, and she could feel the food dribbling from her mouth, like any real baby would have done. In the end, even she had to admit it was a good thing she hadn't kept her dress on, or it would have been filthy. Of course, it would have been nice if she'd gotten it back as her mother cleaned her up, instead of leaving her in only a diaper.
It wasn't going to last for long, so she ignored it as best she could, until Zoe offered to take her up to her crib for naptime. She took her friend's hand, toddling next to her, the other girl waiting until they were out of earshot before observing, "You seem happier now, sweetie."
"Uh-huh," Hannah nodded. "I'm not worried about being a baby forever anymore! I know how to make the curse go away!"
"That's true," Zoe agreed, "But remember... Just give into it." Was she not? Hannah frowned, wondering if she wasn't doing as good a job as she'd thought... Should she be giving in even more?
When Zoe went through her PJs, Hannah picked out a pair of pink, fuzzy, footed ones, ones that she'd absolutely refused to wear before... And, on her way over to the crib, she grabbed an equally unused pacifier from the top of her dresser. Her mother had given it to her so she wouldn't suck her thumb, but Hannah had insisted she could stop it on her own, with no need for a paci; now, she popped it right into her mouth, and began to nurse on it, and, when she realized how soothing it was, she refused to let herself feel embarrassed about it.
"You are doing so good," Zoe complimented her, tucking her into her crib and kissing her on the forehead. "You'll be done in no time!"
Hannah nodded, ignoring the feelings that were building up in her bladder and bowels, trying not to think about Zoe - or, more importantly, her boyfriend - as she closed her eyes. She was a baby... All she needed to think about was her pacifier, concentrating on sucking away at it as she slowly fell asleep.
