The Hatter takes you aside from the party and explains that he felt you weren't getting enough appreciation and attention. He brings you to a cozy fireplace, where you sit together. He monologues on several topics, including fire, liveliness, sense, nonsense, happiness, and sadness. He expresses his belief that people shouldn't be sad, and that people should make more of an effort to be happy instead of holding on to sadness that has outstayed its welcome. He believes that not enough people allow themselves to be happy and to truly enjoy life. He also expresses some possessive feelings toward you, which could be interpreted as platonic or romantic. He hints that you have further to go in your journey. At the end of your conversation, he gives you his name - Rathet.
