Picking a shoe for shoe noises.

I have this terrible habit of focusing on only one thing at a time until it's done, so while I was working on an audio over the past few days, I didn’t notice the sudden uptick in new patrons. Until now.

As I've been moving into binaural audio, I've been thinking a lot about how to make the sort of sounds that reflect what's happening. Usually it's enough to simply do whatever it is I'm describing. If I'm sitting, I sit. If I'm lying down, I lie down. If I'm teasing myself, I do exactly that.

But some sounds come across as weirdly aggressive, and while I was recording this audio, I had a lot of trouble finding a shoe for the sound of shoe-removal. I started with a strappy pair of patent leather heels but they made a really jarring squeaking sound. So I switched to a pair of slingbacks. Same problem. I must have gone through twenty different takes as I tried out different shoes before settling on this one:

(That vague black mass at the ankle is a silk ribbon tied in a bow.)

So the sound you hear on that audio is the sound of this particular shoe. 

And speaking of that audio, it ends softly and in a way I really like (with your head in my lap as I stroke your back) and I want to record a longer version of that, but one that isn't specific to any kink. A general back-stroking, hair-stroking, calming audio. 

I just need to wait until it's dead quiet. If there's anything I'm learning about the 3Dio mic, it's that it picks up everything.
