The Down Side of Focus

I've had a headache for a few days. It's like a large needle being slowly, continually, pushed into my eye socket. It's minor enough that I can distract myself from it, but annoying enough that it's interfering with my sleep.
But I noticed it dissipated as I watched the sky lighten while I waited for my train. I realized that my eyes were tired from focusing too much on the same depth of field. I've spent so much time focused on things directly in front of me (screens, papers, the walls of my apartment) that it hurt and I needed to spend some time looking off into the distance.
Talk about a heavy handed metaphor.
