Off to Sex Camp

I've been MIA the past couple weeks because I've been feverishly working on the apartment. Unsurprisingly, I undertook projects that are much harder than I expected and took about a thousand more hours to make than I thought they would. It turns out that making furniture out of random scrap wood is hard! Even if you're a wiz at ikea furniture and know your way around an electric drill. And, contrary to what those crafting blogs tell you, painting stuff has many steps! And oil based paints are a whole nother ball game that you just do not have time for! Who knew? Aside from, you know, people with common sense. Also sewing and building skills are... not super compatible. For instance, a common axiom of building is "measure twice, cut once" and its parallel in sewing would probably "measure all you want, the fabric's going to fuck you up somehow." But when the fabric inevitably does whatever, you can kind of squidge it into place. Wood doesn't sqidge. Like, at all. So by the time I was done I somehow had a shelving unit that was both too big AND too small. So now I have to figure out if I want to unscrew the whole thing and try again or if I want to master the circular saw and cut the shelves down to fit in it. So... that's been most of my life for the past couple weeks. I get the next six days to relax at sex camp and then a couple more weeks till work picks back up again. I'll be working a LOT in October and November so I'm hoping to get everything more or less into shape before then. I'm so tired of living in a disaster zone and I'd like to work on other projects, please. On the upside, sex camp! Maggie and I are heading down now and Johnny (who recently got a great job!) is joining us on friday. We've got some fun stuff planned and relaxing stuff too so I'm hoping that I'll come back recharged.
