I'm finally writing again. Kinda. Or I've found a writing project that doesn't make me hate myself whenever I think about it. So, yay? I've been working on a novel about a 1920s sex worker for...a long time. I first got the idea in 2004. I thought it was done last year (or two years ago?) but after getting several rejections from agents, one of them kind enough to say "I like the pitch and the writing, the structure doesn't work though." And she was really right. I did a lot of reading about outlining books and I learned a lot of things but nothing that made me think "yes, this will definitely make it a good book that people will want to read!" A couple weeks ago I rewatched 500 Days of Summer (which I highly recommend) and realized that the arc was really similar to the one in my novel and I might be able to take some structure cues from it. I haven't really been writing it because I'm spending all my time either sewing or doing my vagina job. But when Johnny was out of the house I watched 500 Days of Summer twice while I was sewing (I can't wait till he has a job and I can be weird and obsessive without annoying him) and I made notes. On my commutes I've been working out which scenes I have that are analogous to plot points in the movie, what's missing, what needs to be cut and I think once I get some actual writing time I'll be able to make some big strides forward. In the meantime, I'll be sewing, teaching, and taking pictures of my cat.
