I haven't done this act in a long time, partly because I was never really happy with it, and partly because there are a surprising number of Cookie Monster burlesque acts out there.
But I like the act and was happy to get another chance to get it right. I bought a bunch of blue fur for this act, like, five years ago (and haven't done the act since. Yikes.) and I'd meant to make into a coat or something that was drapey in a fabulous Erté sort of way. Something that referenced Cookie Monster's simple, goofy, body but in an elegant and sexy way.
I promise, sexy Cookie Monster makes sense if you hear the song.
I realized that we had a promotional shoot coming up on Tuesday and I had yet to even start on the coat. So I did a bunch of Erté research, then took out the fabric to see what draping I could do with it. I had no idea how long it would take to make something that really worked, so I started to freak out, even though I'd already blocked off Monday for working on it.
And then this happened in, like, five minutes. It's simple almost to the point of being stupid, but still somehow deliciously odd and fancy looking, which describes Erté to a T.
