Was Sarah being serious?

It wasn’t what she and Taylor had talked about and, even if Anna’s bedroom was a normal color, he didn’t want to swap with her. On top of that, he had to deal with another round of quiet giggles in response to how Sarah was talking about the siblings. Taylor wasn’t ready for the ball to be put in his court, when nothing was actually his decision where Sarah was involved. Similar to how the nerdy girl embarrassed him in front of his friends, Taylor had no choice but to bite his tongue instead of saying what he normally would when Anna and her friends were being all bratty with their whispers.

“She’s going to get it when I graduate,” Taylor pointed out. While he didn’t love that he’d probably be staying in the pink room whenever he was back for one of the longer breaks, he couldn’t really argue against the common sense of letting Anna have the space when she was still living at home. And, ideally, their parents would finally get around to painting over the pink after Anna moved all of her things out.

As he expected, that wasn’t good enough for Sarah, who was constantly motivated to make his life difficult ever since that first day of daycare. “All the more reason to switch now,” Sarah countered, “Anna can have a turn in the bigger bedroom, and you can get a head start on packing for college.”

“That would be amazing,” Anna said. She glanced between Taylor and Sarah, waiting to see how exactly this was going to play out. The conversation earlier had already proved that Taylor was a little bit subby when it came to his relationship with Sarah. At least, that’s what it looked like to Anna. Maybe that’s all it took to break ‘Tay-Tay’ of his annoying arrogant jock habits–a girl who knew how to take control. Of course, Anna was oblivious to the truth; she was more than content with the assumption that her petite brother was being topped by a girl who was nothing at all like the popular bitches most of their school’s athletes dated.

She would also love to swap rooms. Partly because she was tired of hers and would love the darker colors of his, and partly because it would be hilarious for Taylor to have a pink bedroom.

Sarah squeezed Taylor’s hand again. “We could do it today, unless you’re busy right now? It will go a lot faster with five girls working on it. Oh! Four girls, and a cute boy. Sorry, Tay-Tay.” She gave a tiny eye roll in response to her ‘mistake’ in counting him like that. “Inside joke,” she vaguely explained, leaving it up to Anna and company to potentially take the bait.

Halfway through Sarah talking about the bedrooms, Taylor connected the dots about the ‘gift’ she had referenced in the car. Was this that something? Maybe Sarah didn’t have something in mind to begin with, and had been waiting for inspiration to strike. And strike it did, in the form of a childish/girly bedroom she was happy to make Taylor take for himself.

While the part about calling him a girl earned a curious look from all three of the girls, Anna was too focused on the discussion at hand. She wasn’t about to waste such an opportunity, when she had no idea how long this dynamic between Taylor and Sarah would last, or even if their relationship would end up being more short-term vs. long-term. “Right now is perfect,” Anna said. Provided her friends were okay with some unexpected manual labor. Turning to the two of them, she asked, “Do you mind hauling some furniture and stuff with us? I’ll treat you to something after!”

Sure enough, both girls were on board; they were just as interested in this development.

“Tay-Tay?” Sarah asked. The hand squeezing had already turned into a subtle warning system ever since they went public with their ‘relationship’ that morning. Just for good measure, she leaned in and gave his cheek a kiss. “What do you say? Want to be the best little brother in the whole world?”

“I-” Taylor hesitated. This was all happening too quickly, and he was thoroughly on his back foot from how Sarah kept talking down to him in front of his sister and her friends. He didn’t want to give up his room; he definitely didn’t want to take Anna’s. At the same time, he was well aware that he was still under Sarah’s thumb, and this was just another instance of her flexing that power.

Capitalizing on his silence, Sarah said, “Actually, we should be asking Anna. She’s in charge.” Addressing Anna, complete with a wink meant just for her, she said, “Say the word, Anna. If you want your little brother’s bedroom, I bet he’ll give it to you.”

Anna couldn’t resist. Their parents weren’t home, and Sarah was clearly going out of her way to embarrass Taylor. Ugh, was her brother really into being treated like . . . ? Anna wasn’t sure what the right word was, and she didn’t want to think too much about it. While it was funny seeing him all flushed and flustered, they were also related; if Anna went too deep down that mental rabbit hole, she’d start thinking about how whatever this was translated in the bedroom.

Sticking with the usual attitude she had towards him, adding in a healthy dose of smugness when she could tell that he was thoroughly outnumbered when it came to this decision, she said, “I’m in charge while our parents aren’t here, Tay-Tay. And I want your bedroom.”

Happily backing her up, Sarah said, “You heard your sister, babe. Come on, let’s start packing up your stuff.”

The reality of the impending switch hadn’t fully hit Taylor, though he could at least tell that this had shifted from a teasing conversation to an actual decision. “But-” he started to protest, wondering if it was possible to backpedal.

“No buts!” Sarah cut him off, “Listen to your big sister.”

“Yeah, Tay-Tay,” Anna smirked, “Our parents only trust one of us, remember?” She had already shared everything with her friends about how Taylor had been told to ask permission for the simplest things earlier. Deciding to push her luck, Anna said, “Now be a good little boy and do what your girlfriend says.”

Sure enough, Taylor didn’t have a retort like he normally did. Instead, he just blushed as Anna’s friends burst into a fit of giggles at how bossy and patronizing she was being.

“How about moving in thirty minutes?” Sarah suggested, “It’ll be easier if both rooms are packed up a little before dealing with the furniture, right?”

“Works for me,” Anna shrugged. As long as this was actually happening, she wasn’t worried about the process.

She was guessing that time was partially so Sarah could further persuade Taylor to go along with the idea, since he still didn’t look totally convinced. In reality, Sarah knew that Taylor’s room was full of his sister’s old clothes; while it would be funny for him to be caught with the adjusted wardrobe, secrets like that were useful in making Taylor incrementally embarrass himself in front of Anna while still having plenty to lose.

As soon as they were back in Taylor’s room, Sarah shut the door and got ahead of any whining her ‘boyfriend’ was about to do. “This is happening, Tay-Tay.” Being a little bold, she stepped forward and slipped her fingers underneath the waistband of his jeans in order to pull his panties up enough for them to be visible. “Give Anna your room, or tell her that you’ve been wearing her underwear?”

They both knew which one he would choose.

When he begrudgingly ‘agreed’ to what had already more or less been decided, Sarah giggled just like Anna’s friends. “Good girl.” She leaned down and kissed his cheek. Like always, it was a purely patronizing gesture, rather than affectionate; for all the boyfriend/girlfriend talk, she was never going to like him like that. “Your turn, babe. Remember what to say?”

He did. Grimacing a bit in frustration, since there was absolutely nothing he could do about Sarah turning his life upside-down, he stood on his tiptoes and reciprocated with a cheek peck of his own. “I’m a little girl,” he mumbled.

“Mm hmm. Eleven years old. That makes you Anna’s little sister, you know?” Sarah was on the fence about nudging Anna in that direction without letting her know about the rest. She had already teased the thing about five girls, and could easily share the ‘inside joke’ with Anna in a way that made it more about Taylor’s size and long hair rather than the rest. It really depended on how much she wanted to screw with him, since Anna was the perfect way to keep punishing Taylor for his bullying ways; Sarah could have her fun at school and at daycare, then send him home to a sister who would be more than happy to tease him and boss him around in an entirely different way.

Stepping back and letting him awkwardly tuck the panties back underneath his jeans, Sarah flopped back onto his bed and told him to get to work. She had no intention of helping him pack. To her, it was more fun to see if Taylor could successfully hide everything he needed to in less than thirty minutes. Probably, since it was really just clothes he had to worry about. She was also pretty sure Anna would come knocking at the exact time, since three girls would be a lot more efficient at staging a room to be moved than one little girl racing the clock.

Taylor proceeded to do just what Sarah anticipated, since his main concern was how she had replaced more than half his clothes with what Anna had outgrown years ago. This wasn’t a real move, so he didn’t have any cardboard boxes. Not that they were going to be packing things up that intensely, when this would be more a matter of making lots of small trips down the hall once they dealt with the furniture.

He pulled his suitcase out from the closet and stuffed it full of dresses and panties, including the ones from his laundry hamper. Anna’s friends were part of this, which meant there were triple the chances of someone glimpsing something if he wasn’t careful. Unfortunately, a suitcase wasn’t enough to hold everything, since Sarah had pulled out quite a lot of outfits the other day. Frowning in thought, Taylor looked around for anything else opaque he could use to hide the rest of Anna’s clothes.

As he scanned the room, he noticed the purple backpack that Anna would recognize as well. Fuck, there was SO much to hide from his sister. Of course, he couldn’t swear out loud, when Sarah would get on his case for language. Whenever it was just the two of them, she mostly treated him like a daycare girl regardless of how he was dressed.

How much time was left? Taylor had no idea. Feeling a little ridiculous as he grabbed his hamper, when he had gone out of his way to not use that to begin with, he grabbed the backpack and the rest of Anna’s clothes and carefully filled the plastic container with a combination of his own things and the stuff he was trying to hide. The sheets on his bed would have made the task much simpler, but he doubted Sarah was going to get up when she was propped on her elbows and working on homework or whatever on her laptop.

Once he triple checked that his closet and drawers had no girls’ clothes in them, and did the same with the hamper to make sure nothing damning was peeking through, Taylor finally got to work on the rest. He definitely fit the cliché of a teenage boy in that his room was quite cluttered, especially when his parents were rarely around to comment on the mess. Sarah eventually piped up and told him to worry about the bigger stuff first. Clear his desk, so it was ready to be moved. Empty the drawers of whatever clothes were left. Make sure there was a path to the door that everyone could use. She didn’t bother micromanaging him, when there was homework to be done; while this whole Tay-Tay comeuppance/revenge endeavor was amazing, the last few nights hadn’t been nearly as productive as they usually were for a more academic girl like her.

By the time Anna knocked, Taylor had made a decent amount of progress. He was still nervous about the clothes he was hiding, as well as the fact that he was currently wearing panties, though there was no getting out of answering the door. Had it already been thirty minutes?

“Ready, little brother?” Anna smirked as soon as they were face to face. It wasn’t the first time she had made a reference like that. Before the situation that led to daycare and Sarah, there had been plenty of isolated instances where she commented on his size. More often than not, to her friends; if he happened to be in the other room, that obviously wasn’t her fault. And if he complained about it, he would just be encouraging her. However, this was the first time she had blatantly called out their height difference. Standing a few inches taller than him despite being a couple years younger, she said, “Or do you prefer Tay-Tay?”

Neither.’ Aside from giving Anna an annoyed look, Taylor couldn’t actually say anything. Not when Sarah was attached at his hip like she had been all day, save for when they didn’t have class together. “Let’s just do this,” he muttered.

“Be nice, babe!” Sarah reminded him, “She’s your sister.”

“Yeah, Tay-Tay,” Anna smiled, “You’re supposed to be working on that. Not being mean, or whatever.”

Sarah shot her a wink. Similar to what Taylor was doing, she could have a little fun while only one of the siblings could see her. “Exactly,” Sarah said, “Be nice to your big sister.”

Taylor just rolled his eyes, regretting it immediately when he thought about how Anna could easily call him out on it if she wanted to be a brat.

Instead, Anna just mimicked the gesture. “You’re right, Sarah,” she said, “He is kind of cute. When he’s not whining, that is. Anyway, we’re ready when you are!”

“Ready!” Sarah confirmed, “Want to start with Tay-Tay’s desk?”

Taylor quickly became the odd boy out in the moving process..

Sarah and Anna teamed up to start moving furniture from room to room; Anna’s two friends did the same. He was the only real athlete of the group, not that it mattered. Between his sister and his ‘girlfriend,’ there were more than enough comments about how it was better for the big, strong girls to deal with the heavy stuff. Taylor was directed to focus on the smaller boxes, the lamps, the clothes, etc. Anything he could easily carry down the hall.

The other part he didn’t like was how often Sarah and Anna exchanged whispers with each other, often while glancing his way and quietly giggling to themselves. He knew they could just be trying to mess with him, and succeeding, but Sarah could just as easily be giving Anna some ammo to use once Sarah headed home.

All in all, it only took about thirty minutes or so to get the job done. Mostly since they decided to not bother with the beds; both frames were pretty basic, so it made more sense to just switch the mattresses. That, and the job wasn’t actually done. The furniture had been moved, which was an achievement. However, it would probably take hours for Taylor and Anna to individually get their new rooms to not look like total chaos with all the stuff they had to unpack and reorganize.

Still, the tough part was done. As Taylor looked around the pink room that was going to be his for the foreseeable future, he already knew that switching back wasn’t going to happen. Even once he had figured out the Sarah problem, there was no way he’d be able to convince Anna to undo all of this. He could always try to do it when she wasn’t around, except he would need help and there was no way in hell he was going to let his teammates come over and see this.

Besides, he’d be in college soon enough. If anything, he could figure out how to paint the walls and resign himself to the smaller bedroom that would’ve been his at some point anyway.

“Wow, this room is perfect for you!” Sarah smiled. She sauntered in and surveyed the bedroom, before affirming, “Isn’t pink your favorite color? Or is it purple?”

Taylor gave her a similar look to when Anna had teased him earlier. Between school, daycare, all this stuff with his sister, and everything in between, he desperately needed a break. If Sarah pushed too many buttons, there was a good chance he’d either explode in frustration and/or beg her to cut this shit out.

She seemed to read him pretty well about all that, unless it was coincidence. Instead of taking things further, she said, “Anyway, I should get going. Guess they were right about boyfriends being distracting. I haven’t even started on my homework!”

After doing the usual cheek kiss and pressing him to do the same with the demeaning phrase that followed it, she said that she would text him with some progress checks later. He still needed to finish his fifth grade homework, and watch his nightly episodes. Other than that, she held back. They could always get him to take on Anna’s chores next time.

“See you tomorrow, Tay-Tay!” Sarah cheerily said, “Wear something pretty for me, okay?”
