Here's the upcoming slate of KYOTO VIDEO episodes to be airing this quarter

Dirty Pair: Affair of Nolandia – November 12th

It’s time to check in with the Lovely Angels again! And this time, we’ll be looking at one of the more off-beat titles from their heyday, Affair of Nolandia. It’s a strange title involving psychic powers and forests of illusions and we’re untangle it to see if it’s any good and the reason why Kei and Yuri look like… that.

My My Mai – November 26th

Time for yearly echii title that I will fail to make any sort of money off of. This year, it’s My My Mai, a slice early 90s playful sexy stupidity about a sex therapist solving her clients otherworldly problems in the bedroom. Is it dumb fun or is it just dumb? And just how hunky is Satan?

Golgo 13: The Professional – December 17th

KYOTO VIDEO now explores a true stone-cold classic anime for the grownest of grown-ups. 1983 Golgo 13: The Professional is an adaptation of the classic gekigaof the same name by the late Takao Saito. We’ll explore the history Saito, his manga and the Osamu Dezaki movie that it spawned. It’s a stylish, mature and somewhat misogynistic film that may or may not be a complete masterpiece.

The Fantastic Adventures of Unico – December 31st

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we have 1981’s The Fantastic Adventures of Unico. One of the definitive children’s anime film that brought forth from the hearts and mind of Osamu Tezuka, Sanrio and Madhouse. Learn how this film began as a failed pilot film and proceed to get “Katy the Kitty Witch” stuck in your head for the next couple of days.

Area 88 – January 14th

So how exactly do you make a three-episode OVA based on a long-running shonen series about a mercenary air force? Why give that series to industry elder statesmen Hisayuki Toriumi of course! The Area 88 OVAs are excellent war anime films that combine intricately detailed visuals with fist-pumping dogfights and a serious examination on the nature of war being the hell it is.

Patlabor: The Mobile Police – January 28th

Coming up on the 4thanniversary of the years, we close out year 4 of KYOTO VIDEO by finally tackling a retro anime staple, Patlabor! We’ll be covering the original 1988 OVA that started it all! We’ll talk about Mamarou Oshii’s involvement, the manga that started it all, and how the anime can effectively tackle the issues of giving an incredibly bored police force a bunch of giant robots.
