Here's the upcoming slate of KYOTO VIDEO episodes to be airing this quarter

Twinkle Heart – August 13th

Say, did you know the guy behind Dream Hunter Rem made another stab at a potential OVA franchise? Apparently, this one didn’t turn out to be as successful as it only got one episode, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cover it. Twinkle Heart is a forgotten little oddity from the peak OVA day and one that proves that the concept of “cute girls doing cute thing” is not a recent phenomenon. Is it worth watching or does the twinkle end up being more of a fizzle?

Slayers: The Motion Picture - August 27th

Now that we’ve successfully covered all of the OG seasons of original Slayers, it’s time we got into the more esoteric material. Namely, the OVA continuity which is a lot different from TV series in more ways than one. We’ll talk about why that is, how ADV was able to get its paws on this continuity specifically, but more importantly, this episode means that KYOTO VIDEO is finally gonna talk about Naga!

K.O. Beast– September 10th

We’re not out of the 90s fantasy anime woods just yet friend-os. K.O. Beast is an OVA released in the early 90s about three adventurers in a post-apocalyptic world who have the ability to turn into furries at will. Sound like it’s right up my alley. Is it? One thing to be sure, this dub will have plenty of Pokemon voice actors to make up for lack of any in the last episode.

Riki-Oh – September 24th

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of one of the most insane martial arts films ever put to celluloid, we gotta take a look at the manga that inspired it alongside the anime OVA that came before it. Both of them as a matter of fact as we’ll be taking a look at Riki-oh: The Wall of Hell and Riki-oh: Child of Destruction. Though something tells me that both won’t be nearly as awesome as someone trying to strangle someone with their own small intestines.

Maryuu Senki – October 15th

Halloween is upon us again and we will start the season of spookiness by looking at AIC and Bandai’s forgotten foray into 80s OVA horror anime Maryuu Senki. A strange concoction of East Asian mythology, dark fantasy and neon-drenched 80s horror, Maryuu Senki can either be a hidden jewel among the video shelves or just another bog-standard piece of VCR schlock. Either way, there will be blood. Lots of it.

Perfect Blue – October 29th

KYOTO VIDEO finally treads into the world of one of my favorite directors Satoshi Kon with the psychological horror classic Perfect Blue. We will take a look at how this film got made, why this film continues to resonate with people and why it is just so damn scary.
