Hi!

Ok now I think I'm ready to share this impromptu podcast series with you. It's not quite k-pop related ... it's like k-pop / k-drama adjacent?? So I'm sorry if it's like outside the scope of what you typically expect from us. Just sometimes Allison and I get all chatty during our binge watches and we don't know what to do with the content.

Literally, this day happened in April 24th. We watched all ten episodes in one sitting. We just couldn't stop. But we also couldn't keep our thoughts to ourselves and so we both simultaneously whipped out our own phones and started recording voice memos as if we had our own podcast, not knowing at all that the other would do the same. It was hilarious.

Anyways - these are our thoughts after watching the first three episodes. And I think you'll get to know us a bit more intimately through this listen. You'll learn from Allison that she identified from the marriage aspect of it. You'll learn from me as an Asian American what it was like to watch with our faces and our stories at the forefront but in English. And you'll also hear what we thought about the church scene with us both being Christians.

It's just something you don't typically see in western media. Asians on TV not being a trope. Christians on TV not being crazy or cultlike or the butt of the joke. I can't speak on the marriage side of things because that's more of what Allison resonated with. But I think that it was written out of experience and what you saw on that series is typically NOT what is acceptable in asian culture.

It felt very breakthrough-y.

With the likes of Crazy Rich Asians breaking expectations. And Squid Game reaching a global audience. WIth how k-entertainment is making a splash in our TV (albeit Jennie deserved better than IDOL being her debut; and there's also XO Kitty which wasn't my favorite but it was something) - I just feel like this change in media opened the door for creators here to tell their stories.

I live in LA, surrounded by storytellers who all want to pitch to Netflix and Amazon and Hulu. It's just so interesting to see how k-dramas are making an impact here.

It's just really cool to see. I hope you like the video!

Sorry that's it's different. I'm pulling from the archives!!
