Every time I do a crash course with new guests, I always ask them what their favorite music genre is or who their favorite artist is. Bill and Christina were of no help. They were like - we love everything! So I basically gave them everything.
Although, at one point Christina did say that she loved a strong, female vocalist. At first I had a hard time thinking of a soloist for that. The vocalists that come to mind are IU and Jean Somi and Heize and Bibi. But someone strong enough to belt out a huge note like Adele or Ariana Grande? I'm like are they equivalent to that?
I decided to go with the top tier vocal queens around - Red Velvet. Although I think I came into it unprepared. Psycho (a number that I've already seen and loved) was good to go. But I had never seen Suelgi's 28 Reasons or Bad Boy. I had no idea what we were getting into.
First off, Bad Boy didn't have any captions. So PD fail right there. But also the other two songs together just seemed very ... dysfunctional? Psycho? Crazy? I guess that's the point. Love drives you crazy?
Which is really interesting because I don't really sit down and dissect lyrics. I'm more about the sound and the beat. But to sit there with two newbies who are all about the lyrics ... I felt like "woah, is this ok?"
Vocal queens - yes. Dysfunctional relationships - maybe so. Incredible harmonies and sultry visuals - also yes. Left with more questions that before - 100%.
I really need to learn more about the band. And get to know who's who. And probably read their lyrics. It's just hard to sit down and do reactions for all of it when I'm always waiting on other people. There's just so much music to get through!
But we're trying. TXT coming up next! And then we'll be back to me and Allison.
Thanks for watching, as always!
What do you think of the messaging in these songs? Who are some strong, female vocalists in the k-pop world besides Red Velvet that I can recommend to others?
