"Question everything you see. Especially on the Internet."

Some background info:

I've been planning this comic for half a year. Although the topic is not new, it was a video that I found by chance that reminded me of this problem again. In the video were two young men who "accidentally found" a baby cat in the middle of a four lane highway. The cat was so young that it could not walk on its own. Two questions came to my mind 1) how can such a young animal that can hardly move by itself get lost on such a big highway in the middle of nowhere? And 2) Why do these two young men just "walk" on a highway and film by chance? I thought these points alone were so obviously suspicious, but in the comments no one noticed how illogical the whole situation was. Everyone cheered the two "heroes". I checked the channel and indeed most of the videos were about how the two "accidentally" found and "saved" kittens in dicey situations.

At first I wanted to make a comic about this very first video, but the story didn't really work out, so in the end I switched to a lake. Originally, the animal in the comic was supposed to be a cat, but since cats appear relatively often in my comics, I thought I should use a different animal. Actually, all kinds of animals are used for such videos, rabbits, birds, turtles... anything, really.

But it's not just these fake videos. It's also photos that circulate on social networks. Often of small animals "sitting strangely" and people share it and laugh about it, unaware that these animals are most likely seriously injured or even intentionally injured to be able to shoot such a photo/video.

It scares me to see how little such things are questioned, how rarely comments point out that the situation is illogical.

I don't want to be a killjoy, but please pay close attention to what you share and spread.
