As every year, I'm contributing to the Yordle Pinum Calendar project and this year I wanted to create something a bit bigger. An idea I had spinning in my head for quite a while now and it seems like a perfect opportunity to finally realize it. Some of you maybe remember one of my previous works, a picture of poppy skins posing nude:
I wanted to do something similar, but with all of tristana's skins instead. Allow me to show you a glimpse of my process.
Tristana, as I'm writing this, has 16 skins. First step for me is actually figuring out which skins could interact with each other and what colours they have. In Poppy picture above I tried to have characters form a rainbow of colours, and I wanted to try for similar effect with Tristana picture. Most of Tristana's skins, unlike poppy, keep her original skin colour which could be a problem when trying to form a diverse palette, so what mainly matters is colour of hair and accessories. Following image probably won't make much sense, as it's just me figuring out things in my head:
If you can tell anything from this nonesense it's probably that Pirate and Omega Squad tristana would be paired on account of both missing an eye. Pengu and Rocket Tristana could be paired on account of wearing one-part suits but sadly they are too far apart on the colour wheel. 17th skin, Hexplorer tristana wouldn't be included in the end as apparently it's mobile-exclusive, and I decided that 16 is plenty enough already.
As much as I'd love all Tristanas to hold each other, interact with one another in big complex web, I had to group them somehow, and so there is one triplet in the middle, five doubles around them and three "lonely" tristanas who don't actually interact with others, laying as more or less standalones. Piece has a "safe zone" on the sides since I want to make it fit two ratios: one for a calendar, the other for a wallpaper. I also plan to create NSFW and SFW-ish versions.
I think this might be the most characters I've drawn on a single picture (Although technically it's only one character, Tristana), as such you can imagine the process is quite time-consuming, but I think, very rewarding!
There is still a lot of work ahead of me. Cleaning up linework, colouring, shading, although I'll keep the latter very simple, I think. More complex shading with so many characters could simply take too much time.
Thank you all for your patience and continuous support. I have a lot of plans and work. On the side I'm working on a bodypillow and standee designs and I'm hoping to start, and hopefully finish, working on a new comic before the end of the year. I admit that progress has been somewhat slow lately, for which I can blame my newly adopted young cat. Cat is dumb, stinky and beautiful, I love cat very much but sadly young cat requires a lot of attention, provides distractions and made an unfortunate habit of peeing on my bed.
Every. Single. Day.
I love my new cat so much.
