D&Devils 3: Celestial Artistry: Chapter 1

I sit up with a gasp and stare blankly at a screen before me.

The past three hours have been... unusual to say the least.

I helped a kitten out of a storm drain- nearly getting my arm snapped up by an ALIGATOR in the process as I had apparently been too close to its babies which were on the curb.

I was wondering what those little laser-like noises were.

Anyways, I took the kitten, got in my car, and brought it to the vet.

Actually, wait a second. I live in Alabama... on a mountain... with no form of swamp, pond, or lake for literal miles... Why was there an Alligator there?!

Anyways, after narrowly avoiding a car accident from a swerving eighteen wheeler I took the kitten to the vet, and got it all checked out.

It was fine, just a little scared. I didn't have any place for it back home so I left it there, walked outside and nearly got hit by an arrow from the archery range next door.

Nearly shitting myself, I hurried to my car, got in and drove home.

I drove under a bridge and an entire STEAMROLLER careened over the rails above and crushed the back-half of my truck.

By this point I was getting a little paranoid, so I quickly got out to avoid the possibly soon to be coming explosion and... Delivery Truck right to the, well, EVERYTHING.

So.

Judging by this little holographic square... and the sheer UNLUCKY Monday I've been having... someone must have been trying to kill me, yeah? For an... Isekai?

You have been reborn! You are welcome!

Isekai.

I'm not that broken up about it. This'll probably be more fun that my boring nine-to-five.

I am the Departed Immigration and Complementary Enlightenment System! But you can call me D.I.C.E.!

I look around a completely dark void of nothingness, the only thing I can see is this screen before me and a dark outline of what is supposedly my body.

Why 'Departed Immigration and Complementary Enlightenment', you might ask? Well, my creators really wanted to get an acronym that spelt Dice! Simple, right?

'But it doesn't spell Dice though... it spells DICES...'

There is a reason to this madness, however, this system allows you to become a d&d character! Incredible, right?! Exp, spells, classes, skills, you name it! But above all else, sometimes there are little 'homebrew' effects you can gain. Be it through achievements, hard work, or quests!

As a reincarnate, you will be getting placed into an entirely new world, one that might seem oddly familiar to you!

We will get into that in a moment! First let's make you, shall we?

A blank screen appears before me, looking roughly like a d&d character sheet... which is sort of expected considering the whole 'allows you to become a D&D character' statement.

Well, I mean, first off, this isn't D&D it's pathfinder... which is basically exactly like d&d 3.5 but with a few balance changes... it's a lot harder to break than D&D 3.5 which sort of made it my preferred system. Ugh. That's really biting me in the ass right now.

If you haven't already noticed, the DICE system automatically aligns itself to whatever system you are most familiar with.

Name:

Level: 0

Class: None

Race: Human

Stats:

STR: 0
DEX: 0
CON: 0
INT: 0
WIS: 0
CHA: 0

Now, a couple things might be going through your head right now, primarily, 'Why aren't I dead. A living creature with 0 in stats literally cannot function'. And well, it's quite simple. This is the tutorial, friend! Rules don't apply here! First, shall we roll your stats?

The sound of dice clinking around from somewhere causes me to flinch

Statistic 1: 8!

Statistic 2: 12!

Statistic 3: 17!

Statistic 4: 10!

Statistic 5: 14!

Statistic 6: 15!

Not bad at all! Now, you might be worried about your stats if you rolled low. However, it is worthy of note that an 8 is human baseline average and every 5 points beyond 8 is roughtly a x2 to that statistic!

Why don't we select your class, next? After that we will randomly select your starting world from our database!

Not bad, not bad. Decent stats at the very least. Kind of wish I didn't have the eight though.

"Now... what to pick?"

It's obvious I have to choose some form of spellcasting class here. What if I get put in a world with no magic? That'd instantly make me a top-tier all powerful entity just by being able to cast magic missile or cure light wounds.

The real question is... what do I choose-

Hold up... this isn't... pathfinder?

Notice: the system is making use of the Final Fantasy d20 classes, feats, and spells. An expansion onto the base Pathfinder System. Feats from Pathfinder Classic may still be taken freely, however spells are typically locked. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I deeply inhale then exhale. "Alright- this is fine. Utterly fine. Everything is fine."

This means that I can't bring out broken nonsense as easily...

Notice: Your race and new-body's backstory has been decided.

Admin's note: "Well well, you goodie two-shoes. Looks like I finally caught you. Honestly I'm impressed. Managing to avoid death for four hours with the curse of unluck is genuinely an impressive feat. Oh. And you were selected because you were dissatisfied with your life. We don't just go around murdering people for funsies. Anyways I'll leave you with something special. Sorry if this might limit your options somewhat, but this homebrew race will blow ALL the others out of the water so You'll probably survive the world you're going to. I hope you like boobies and magical god-slaying artifacts wielded by idiots who like boobies.

I blink twice, a new window opening up in front of me.

Backstory: Your name is Luce. An Angel of heaven born from two fledgling angels who successfully managed to conceive without falling. However, during childbirth, the pain your mother felt caused her to fall as she was cursing your father with every fiber of her being. Luckily, this action didn't render you a fallen angel as well, being too far along for that to happen. However, during her transition it has left dark marks on your body that reeked of unclean magics, causing the angels to cast you out down to earth where you lived in a secluded church, where it was planned for you to live out the rest of your days.

However... your story is only beginning.

I blink slowly, peering towards another new window, this one seemingly being my new race.

Race: Two-Winged Angel
A child of god's light. Although the weakest among the angels, a two-winged angel is fully capable of conjuring light and even healing.

Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +4 Charisma
Type: Angels are Outsiders with the 'Native' subtype.
Size: Angels are Medium creatures and thus have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Base Speed: Angels have a base speed of 30 feet, and have a Flight speed of 50.
Languages: Angels begin play speaking Celestial. Angels with high Intelligence scores can choose an additional language for each point of their Intelligence Modifier

Defensive Racial Traits:
Celestial Resistance: Two-Winged Angels have Holy resistance 5, meaning they must take 6 holy damage before even a single point of holy damage hurts them.

Feat and Skill Racial Traits:
Skilled: Forgiven have a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Perception checks.

Magical Racial Traits:
Holy Light: Spells that deal 'Holy' damage or conjure light are cast at +1 Caster Level.

Babel:
Angels naturally have the 'Tongues' spell cast on them, allowing them to understand any spoken language and vice versa.

Light magic (Least):
You are granted a pool of magical energy equal to your Level+Charisma Modifier. Using a point of this energy you may cast 'Cure' or 'Light' as a spell-like-ability with a caster level equal to your hit-die.
Special: If you are a White Mage, you may instead convert this energy into MP at a 1-1 Ratio.

God's Light:
Any Spells that cure hit-point damage or deal Holy damage naturally deal x1.5 the natural damage. This stacks with the 'Empowered' metamagic feat, increasing the overall damage or healing to x2

Sense Racial Traits:
Darkvision: Angels have darkvision 60 ft. (they can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.)

Racial Weakness Traits:
Dark Vulnerability:
Angels are by nature weak to corruption, any 'Dark' damage they take is increased by 50%

Icarus, Fated to Fall:
Through 'sin' an angel can lose their light, akin to a paladin breaking their oath and becoming a falling angel. Losing access to the 'God's Light' trait and replacing the 'Light Magic' trait with a weaker variant until you have repented for your actions.

Unique Trait:
Dark Marks:
You are highly resistant to falling naturally. Swearing won't cause your halo to even flicker. Nor will lustful thoughts or lying. Only truly depraved and horrid sins such as murder of the innocent and rape will turn your wings black.

Oh shit...

I'm going to Dxd, aren't I?

Are you satisfied with this Character? {Yes} {No}

I reach out slowly and tap 'yes'. Then, with a flash of Light... I'm somewhere new.

I blearily look around, taking in my surroundings.

It's dark, my world tinged in mostly greys. I sit up far above the ground as memories begin slowly bleeding in.

I'm currently sat in the rafters of my church, a frown tugging at my lips as I begin to remember the day before.

I'm the only child here at the church... the number of people who actually pray here can be counted on two hands and about a fourth of those are the priest and nun who take care of this place.

My name is Luce... and I've been here all my life. In a small village in somewhere Italy.

I gaze out the window, up into the sky, propping my head up with my arm.

Sometimes I- apparently- come up here just to look up at the sky.

My body yearns for acceptance.

Acceptance by the church... by the angels.

That's sad.

Anyways. My plan is to survive till level five and unlock Craft Construct. Then I just need to gather some money... after that? I'll paint a portrait of Goku and sit back. Let Paint Goku solve my problems.

Ping

'huh?'

My eyes stray to the side.

A Quest has been Received!

Stray Devils and Secluded Locations:
A stray devil is in town and it's looking for a place to make a lair. Your church is just out of the way enough that it is considering making itself at home... and by that, I mean slaughtering everything currently living there!

Objective:
Hold off the Stray for a time (0/60): [ ]

My mouth becomes dry as a pit of dread forms in my stomach, the hairs on the back of my neck raising as... I see it...

A woman is running as fast as she can, her hair frazzled, lifting her skirt slightly so she doesn't trip on it. Her face is frantic.

Behind her... is something more bull than man. The lower half of a bull... like a centaur... but the upper torso of a body builder and the head of a snake.

Its large fanged maw is open wide tongue lashing wildly... which is another snake.

"Wait..." I whisper as I rocket to my feet.

Is that Sister Mia?

She trips, causing her to let out a cry.

"NO!" I scream as I swing my hand forwards. The glass shatters, my hand punching through the window.

My hand begins to bleed as a large bolt of white light streaks out in the darkness. As the bull man nears the fallen nun, he slowly looks up, serpentine eyes widening.

The light strikes his chest dead-on causing him to let out a loud shriek of agony.

I dive through the broken window, two large white feathered wings sprouting from my back as I weave through spells that my body knows.

An invisible suit of armor surrounds my chest, protecting most of my vital organs. With another spell, wind surges around my limbs and torso, spiraling.

"YOOOOOOUUUUUU!" The devil shrieks, swinging its head downwards.

A torrent of red energy shoots out, causing my eyes to widen.

I barely manage to raise a shield spell as I am shunted through the sky.

The clear dome of magic cracks slightly as I barely manage to angle it just enough to shove me out through the side of the beam.

A gasp leaves my lips as I dart downwards, coiling around the beam as another blast of holy light condenses in my hand.

I swing my hand forwards, my body lightly scorched from the sheer malice and corruption the attack is leaking.

"Wh-"

BOOM

"AAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH!" It shrieks as a hole is punched through its chest.

The damage my attack dealt is honestly surprising. It rolls on the ground for a brief moment before I can shake off my surprise and create another bolt of energy.

I hurl it forwards-

The devil lurches upwards, two large spindly wings shooting from its back.

"KYEEEEEHHHH." It wheezes, body swaying as it leaps from the earth.

It shoots towards me at high speeds, jaws opening wide. Red energy beginning to condense at the back of its throat.

In panic, a weak blast of holy light shoots from my fingertips. My hasty attack having surprisingly good aim. My holy light pierces cleanly through its eye.

The stray devil sails under my body, smashing through the wall of church behind me.

I turn, eyes quickly scanning the dust.

I can see its crumpled body in the rubble, so I raise my hands and shoot several small blasts of energy at it, peppering its body with the cantrip magic 'Holy Orb'.

It doesn't react, causing me to let out a long sigh of relief.

My vision swims as I nearly fall out of the sky, my white wings flapping frantically as I take several panting breaths. I can feel my consciousness beginning to wane as I turn.

Sister Mia is laying on the ground, body burnt, her chest barely rises and falls. She wasn't in the direct line of fire for that attack, but she was far closer to its origin and lacked magical protection like I had... two barriers to block, and wind to disperse some of the heat. She had none of that... and... she's a mundane human.

"No." I whisper.

Something inside me snaps, power surging throughout my body.

A wave of white light explodes outwards in all directions from me, creeping over the earth until a sixty-foot globe has appeared around me.

And just as fast as it appears... it has vanished.

The stabbing sensation in my hand has become mere annoying stinging. The burns across my body have become mild tingling.

I shakily touch down, still mildly lightheaded from the pain I was feeling a moment ago.

I rush forwards as fast as I can.

I only have four spells per day... plus three with my Angel trait.

I cast Mage Armor, Shield, Wind Armor, and Three 'Light's. That leaves one spell left.

I slide to a halt beside the badly burned woman, healing light springing to life in my hands as my wings retract and halo disappears.

She had already been healed some by that explosion of light. It seemed to have stabilized her. Her breathing is now easier. She no longer looks to be on the brink of death.

The light washes over her, causing me to let out a small sigh of relief as her immediate injures seem to fade.

My shoulders slump slightly.

Ping

A Quest has been Completed!

Slay Vebulub before help Arrives: [x]
Slay Vebulub without taking a single point of damage: [-]

Bonus Rewards:
Bonus 1: 4000 Exp
Bonus 2: 3000 Exp, One magic item worth up to 2500 Gil/GP, Bonus Feat.
Bonus 4: Healing Touch Special Quality.

Healing Touch:
Whenever you use a healing spell or ability, you heal an extra 1 point of damage for each die of healing the effect cures.

I only won that because I hard-built damage... plus I assume that the devil was weak to holy.

Realistically with that increase to damage it was an even fight somewhat.

It would have killed me in one real hit, and I managed to kill it in three good hits.

You have leveled up!

You have leveled up!

New knowledge flows into my head.

I've gained...

Lay on hand... and a trait I will pick later.

My hands glow as I continue to heal the woman. After spending three uses it appears that she is completely uninjured.

My gaze snaps upwards as a trio of figures rush from the forest. They wield glowing weapons and wear white cloaks that obscure their features.

The tallest of the three lets out a shout. A woman. "Where is the stray devil?!"

"Dead." I call back before pointing over my shoulder with my thumb. "Over there somewhere."

I look to my hand, jagged marks cris-crossing it. The cuts from when I punched the window.

The red lines fade as my final use of my Lay on Hands causes the general discomfort I was feeling to fade.

The two subordinate exorcists- I know they are that now, judging by the lightsabers they are holding- quickly rush towards the hole in the wall.

"Are you uninjured?" The leader asks as she crouches before me and the nun.

"I am now..." I admit as I rise to my feet, carefully picking up the woman and turning towards the church which now has a hole in it.

I walk inside the church, gently laying the woman on one of the benches that hadn't been thrown aside by the demon crashing through the wall.

"This devil was killed with holy light." One of the two cloaked figures inside begins, also a girl, her voice quite deep and serious-sounding.

"Huh." The other begins, also a girl, but she sounds much more energetic as she turns to me. "Hey, are you an exorcist?"

"No." I shake my head. "Angel."

"..."

"What?" The peppy one squeaks.

A halo briefly flickers above my head before disappearing as I make sure Sister Mia is alright.

By the time I turn back, one of the two has kneeled in front of me. "I prostrate myself in front of a messenger of the lord."

"a-ah..." I begin weakly. "Please stand up. I'm nothing special, really... just two wings. Now... I should probably speak to Father Antonio."

"LUCE! What have you done to my church?! I take you in and this is how you repay me?!" I wince at the loud shouts of the head priest of the church.

He stomps over.

"We were attacked by a-" I begin only to get cut off as he slaps me.

"..."

Oh yeah... I did have a bad relationship with this guy, didn't I?

A simmering rage explodes throughout my chest, eyes narrowing slightly. 'I saved a life... hell, I saved HIS life as well, yet this guy DARES to slap-'

Luckily I don't get to linger on those thoughts for long as the kneeling girl rockets to her feet and punches the priest in the face... in fact, I think I can see one of his teeth get knocked out.

Its a blow that even Luffy would nod at after punching that Celestial Dragon in the face. Honestly it's pretty impressive how much distance the priest gained from that blow, being carried off his feet where he crumples to the floor.

"XENOVIA!" The leader of the trio screams having just entered the building and not seeing the reason as to why Xenovia bludgeoned the man.

"HE STRUCK AN ANGEL OF THE LORD!" The girl shouts at the top of her lungs, pointing at the prone priest. "HE SHOULD BE EXECUTED FOR SUCH BLASPHEMY!"

Ah... I thought those two sounded familiar.

"Angel?" I hear the woman behind me whisper, I can feel her gaze on me even without looking.

"Please don't get so worked up." I smile weakly. "At least not for me... I was cast out of heaven because my mother fell during childbirth... leaving me with..."

I look to the purple markings trailing from my arm. I touch the dark markings on my cheek. "These..."

"I am not a messenger of God... I haven't even seen another angel since the day of my birth, not that I even remember that." My body seems to have quite a lot of parental trauma as my smile shakes slightly, eyes tearing up slightly. "I'm not worth it."

Damn it... I just want to sit around and draw waifus. Why can't I just get level five already?

"Xenovia... you cannot strike priests." The woman sighs.

"But he hit him!" The peppy one who I can only assume is Irina speaks up.

"But Xenovia's strength is too much for normal humans... she could have killed him."

"I know my own strength!" Xenovia growls, pulling her hood down revealing her blue hair with a green streak in it. "I limited myself to merely slightly above the mundane limits!"

"Er... Luce... was it?" The woman begins, could you make sure there's no permanent damage to him? Please? If you wouldn't mind?"

"Hm?" I hum. "Oh. Right. I'd ordinarily say I was out of healing magic for the day, but that would be a lie..."

I walk over, healing light appearing in my hands as the sickly bruise forming on the man's face fades. "I cannot do anything about his broken tooth, though. Shame, that."

With a few castings of 'Cure' his injuries are healed leaving me with just one Mp left.

I stand up, looking over the group, of three exorcists. My wings sprout from my back as with a single flap, I shoot up into the rafters, touching down at the spot I was sat at a few moments ago.

I wave my hand, glass shards being removed from the thick wooden beams.

I gaze off into the sky once more rubbing my temple with a finger.

'alright. Let's take stock. Free feat. Got a Whitemage Talent and can now use Second Level spells...'

I need to prepare for Craft Construct... I can still use it but I'll lack pretty much all of the spell requirements for constructs meaning for each requirement I am missing, I'll be forced to increase the crafting difficulty class by five. The check to create something is typically five plus caster level... but I'm missing two spell requirements for my Trompe L'oeil... so that is a check of fifteen automatically even for a weak thing... but, most of the good things are very high-leveled.

It's one caster level per hit die... which means I'll be missing a third requirement if I wanted to paint something above five hit-die.

The first thing I want to paint will have a Dc of thirty eight...

That's like... insane

Oh? I can take a mage talent that gives me a plus four on crafting? GIMMIE!

Now my total increase to craft is plus seventeen! Meaning that even with a natural twenty... I still wouldn't be able to craft what I wanted!

Shame.

"Excuse me! Luce?" The woman who I am now assuming is Griselda calls up to me, causing me to glance down towards her. "Can you come down here for a moment?"

I slide off the beam falling through the air as my wings sprout from my back once more.

I land gently, wings disappearing as I look over the Nun. "Yes?"

"My name is Griselda Quarta. This is my ward, Xenovia Quarta and my student Irina Shidou."

"Heyo!" Irina waves, having taken off her hood already as well.

"Okay... I'm Luce... No last name given." I admit blandly.

"Would you like to come with us?"

"Can I paint?" I question.

The woman seems caught off guard by the question. "I- Yes?"

"Alright." I nod once. "They never let me paint here... they called it the gateway to sin which is ridiculous as art and Christianity have been a key part of each other for thousands of years."

"How much do you hate this place?" Xenovia asks.

"Xenovia!" Griselda chastises.

"Hate is a strong word. I'm more Resigned and disappointed. They didn't even let me outside much. Honestly, even if you lock me inside wherever you're going... going along with you would be worth it merely to see the world between point A and B."

The older woman is practically gaping like a fish.

"I wont let you be emotionally manipulated any further by this facade of a church!" The blue haired girl declares loudly, pulling me into a one-armed hug. "Come, Luce! I'll show you the world outside!"

"Yes... I'd like that." I smile.

[Split]

WELP. Here we are. 'D&Devil 3: We're doing it again apparently'. Both 1 and 2 sort of have issues with them. Mainly the Electrum system used. If I want to continue them (Or at least D&Devil 2) I'd need to go back and sift through each and every quest and mention of electrum and swap it to Exp and Quest Rewards. I might be able to finish D&Devil 1 without mentioning much of the system. But D&Devil 2's pretty much FUCKED. Sooo uhhh. Anyways I hope you all enjoyed and this is the end of my TED talk.
