Here's a little channel lore.

Some of you who've been here from the beginning know that for the first year or so of making content I filmed all my videos on my cell phone.  I still have that phone, it's a Galaxy note cause I hate apple products. It's a great phone tbh. It's got a few cracks in it and the battery is starting to act funny but I've had this phone since 2019 which is wild when you think about it.  Every video from the beginning until Break Bread was filmed on this phone.

In interviewing him for Break Bread, Hank Green (a legendary creator that's been on the platform forever), offered a camera that he was gifted that he had no use for.  It was a Nikon Z50 which is actually a pretty good (or at least expensive) camera.  He just shipped it to me for the love.  I'll always appreciate him for that even though the camera never had a dummy battery which meant I'd always have to change batteries during live streams.  Hank announced last week that he has lymphoma so if you're in to saying prayers or just good vibes, put a few out for him.  He's been an ally of the channel since early on.  Him tweeting out my Bo Burham vid is probably a reason why I'm here. Hank is a Patron so send some love his way in the comments.

Anyway, despite the ongoing support from all of you, I just couldn't get around to updating my Camera for the past year or so.  My wife quit her soul crushing corporate job last year which she needed, but we didn't think through just how big a windfall that would be, cause we didn't just lose her income, we also lost healthcare, life insurance, tax liability, etc.  Further, I hope it's been evident that I've consistently tried to step up production and not underpay editors to work on these videos.  I am very lucky that you all have been here cause without your support I wouldn't be here

But the last 2 months have been the best performing months ever for the channel, which is so inspiring cause it's off of two videos I was deeply passionate about.  It's always good to remind myself that I can get in the weeds of black politics and still hit them numbers.  In fact I've found those tend to be some of my most successful videos over the past year.

And now I can finally upgrade my camera to the standards of the creator industry and get a dummy battery as well!

I say all this to say thank you.  I appreciate that you all have decided I'm worth investing into.
