Sometime around 2010ish, Matt and I bought our most expensive piece of furniture- a brand new couch from Ikea.

This noble steed has served us well. In addition to normal couch duties, she's also served as a guest bed to many a visitor over the years, as well as an impenetrable fortress when cats need a secret place to hide underneath. She is: A Good Couch.

Matt and I have really been feeling our ages, lately. Our hairs our graying, our faces are sagging, and our poor bodies are just so tired and sore. Time comes for us all, including for furniture. A decade and a half worth of sits and sleeps and farts have taken their toll on our poor old couch as her cushioning becomes feebler and her noble brown upholstery, once so dignified, now bores the eye. One thing couches do have over human, however, is the ease with which they can turn back the hands of time on their aging forms!

With  some sheets of foam and quilt batting, those sagging couch cushions plump right back up to their firm glory!

Here I opened up the armrest so I could shove in some more quilt batting just on the far end where the cushioning had gone flatter than the rest. And then I sewed it closed again! It turns out, that's just something you can do!

Oh, disclaimer, we didn't actually make the new upholstery. Matt ordered it from some website? They sent us fabric swatches and then they did all the actual sewing, so all we had to do was put them on like slip cases. Since it's an Ikea couch, they were already familiar with its measurements.

Check out the comparison between the original seat cushion and the en-plumped and re-upholstered one!! Look how many inches our butts had squished down the original!!!

As always, we couldn't have done it without Tig's help. Thanks, girl.

Et voila! New couch! Neeeeeewwwwww couch! Who's got a new couch? OH IT'S US.

Here's to another 15ish years, Couchie!
