Thanks to everyone who watched The Pedal Movie with me this evening! I will try to post the audio soon for those who want to hear my "expert commentary" as they watch the movie on their own.
One of my favorite parts of the documentary was learning about Pete Drake, who I had never heard of. He was a pedal-steel guitarist who used the talk-box effect later made famous by Peter Frampton.
This is a performance of his hit song "Forever." I find its mashup of aesthetics -- old-timey country and manipulated vocals -- truly uncanny. Plus his facial expression is like "I'm leading you people into the future whether you're ready or not."
It's so amazing! I keep watching it and LOLing at how incredible it is when he starts singing. Plus it reminds me of the summer after college when my housemates and I had a party and played Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk" on a loop all night while people hung out on the porch drinking Genesee Cream Ales. Mellow vibezzzzzzzzz were definitely to be had that evening.
