The crack of flames came out as a small burst as Dimitri neared the lighter against the seventh aromatic candle. The orange light reflected against the plastic facsimile of wax as a rosy, sweet scent came from it.

He had been described as many things before—mostly as either lauds or denigrations of his character. However, one thing that he had never been described as was careless.

No matter how little of a possibility of something happening, he would take it as an absolute certainty. Preparation was the key to maintaining a well-oiled machine. Contingencies and backups were the lifeblood of his company, and he wasn’t about to let a tourist of all people dig into his finances and work.
