I almost never touch the advanced stuff Unity offers. It's funny because the thing that got me into doing stuff in unity was the ability to rotate objects in 3D. The first thing I ever did was put a simple card sprite into unity and rotated it manually. Ah... I remember having such a difficult time back then understanding what quaternions were and euler angers were also... They made no sense to me as to what was important to know and what wasn't, it made me go off on a tangential learning quest to understand them better. Well, now that I do understand them and know how to convert from quaternion to euler and back using either the mathematical formulas and using Unity's built-in tools. Anyways, this wasn't supposed to be a rambling post about the purpose of using quaternions to overcome the limitations of euler's gimbal lock issue by introducing a 4th imaginary mathematical axis this was about 2D shader usage. So I got the cool hologram shader setup in the casino club, that's what I'm calling it here, and its pretty sweet. The whole scene has so much movement and activity, it's almost overwhelming.
