My jaw dropped as I heard the news. Daddy was taking be back to Earth to make a big announcement about the coming invasion. And I was to be the spokesperson - the baby ambassador - showing earthlings their fate. But there was one way out. Luckily, I knew there were others like me who would jump at the chance for a life like this. The question was: would there be enough of us to satisfy the aliens' demand for more earth pets?

"Okay, little, off we go," said Daddy, wheeling me toward the saucer that would take us to the landing area where we first landed. My heart began to race as we approached the ship. I was going to be broadcast in front of the whole world as a big baby. Everyone I knew - and everyone I didn't know - From my parents to the president would know I was being kept as a big baby by fuzzy space mammals. Talk about stage fright!

"What will I say?" I asked as we rose on the platform that brougth us into Daddy's ship.

"You can say just what I tell you. Be an interpreter, of sorts."

"I don't want to do this, Daddy. I don't want all my people to be turned into babies like me."

"But little one," said Daddy, kneeling down and lifting my chin with a soft and understanding smile on his face. "If we don't claim earth, someone else will. And who knows how they'll treat your kind?"

"Couldn't we just keep it a secret, Daddy?"

"No, little one. Now that you've been seen, there are already others looking for you. Believe me, I wish you couldn't acclimated longer but we have no choice.

I began to sob, and he gave me a big hug, whispering and reassuring me as he carried me to the viewing window again. The ship rose up on its own and I watched as the whole process reversed. The Beringas compound becoming small squares, surrounded by a hundred other squares, that dotted the surface of the planet. And then the planet itself, far below us, until we were far enough away that below ceased to have any meaning.

Once inside the larger ship, we once again found it teeming with life - green, red, blue furred creatures abuzz with excitement as we journeyed out. Outside of the window, I saw two more ships of equally massive size to the megaship we were in.

"Are they going too?" I asked, pointing to the ships.

"Yes, they are," said Daddy. "We have to protect ourselves on the journey and we need plenty of space for your kin."

I felt a knot in my stomach. I was torn between the need to be a good little one, and my loyalty to Daddy on the one hand, and my desire to protect my people, and my loyalty to humanity on the other.

"Daddy?" I said, turning away from the window to look my big fuzzy master in the eyes. "Can I tell you something about humans?"

Daddy thought about it. "Okay little one, but make it quick. Daddy has a lot to do and he's going to have to leave you with your little space buddies while he's busy.

"Laffy and Maffy are coming too?"

"Yes," said Daddy. "They went ahead and they're already preparing our room for you."

"That's a relief," I said to myself, relaxing a bit. It would be an easier journey with them by my side. Though I didn't expect I would be getting any dignity in the process.

"So is there something you wanted to tell me, little one?" Daddy Asked.

"Daddy, I'm... a special kind of human. Um... not all of us are babies forever. Just some of us, and we're not so common. Most humans grow up and want to stay that way. A few of us... well, you heard me talking to my boyfriend before you took me."

"Hmm," said Daddy, looking skeptical. "Are you sure  you're not telling me tall tales?"

"No, Daddy! I swear it! We'd never be able to run a planet if everyone was a baby, right?"

Daddy tapped his chin.

"Hmm, well, you did have houses and countries with a rudimentary political structure..."

"Exactly," I said. "So you see, I was thinking... Maybe your people could just take my kind as baby pets, and let the others stay big?"

Daddy set me down and chuckled, holding his belly. "Oh, I see. You're just thinking of their feelings, and want your people to be happy. You're such a sweetheart, Spot. It's really refreshing to see."

I furrowed my brow. I didn't know if this was a good response or a bad one... and I had to hope it was a good one, for earth's sake.

"So... will you consider it, Daddy? Please? For me?"

Daddy patted me on the head.

"Your people won't need to build houses, or govern countries any more, little one. And from what I saw of Earth, it's probably for the best that they are taken care of by masters who will look out for their wellbeing. You do realize that your planet is on the brink of a crisis, with how your people are mismanaging resources don't you?"

"But Daddy, I-"

"Don't worry, little one. I will make sure the rules are very clear for human pets, and we will only distribute them to Beringas family members to start with. It's good to know that humans come in such a variety. The pets' preferences will be taken into account, I promise, my little treasure. Now it's time to take you to our room where Laffy and Maffy will look after you. I have to coordinate the space armada with my brothers in the other ships.

I opened my mouth to speak, and got a locking pacifier in it instead. Soon, I was carted off to our room, which had already been transformed from the blank white space it started out as to a big elaborate nursery much like the one at home.

"Welcome to your nursery, little one!" said Maffy, crinkling in his big diaper as he stepped forward to accept me from Daddy's arm.

"Yeah! Welcome!" said Maffy, bending down and sticking his schnozz in my face. I smiled, even as nervous as I was. It was a comfort to see them again. I just hoped that this really was going to lead to better things for my people. There was no going back now.
