"You gave us a scare there! You need to go back to your daddy don't you?" said Nyctos. I just sobbed and nodded, glad to be moving away from those weird creatures that had been eyeing me so intently. When we got to the pet area, there was a small crowd gathered around where we had been. I was conveyed through a series of warm and furry paws to Daddy. A great cheer rose up as everyone saw pet and master reunited, and then, the drama having come to a satisfying resolution, the crowd dispersed.

""Have we learned our lesson?" asked Daddy, holding me up at arm's length. I nodded. "Good. I am here to protect you as much as I am to possess you. You should remember that. No harm will ever come to my property on a planet such as this but when we are far away in other places, that may not be the case."

"Look at me, Spot. I want to hear that you understand."

"Yes, Daddy, I understand." I said, still avoiding eye contact.

"I want to hear it like you mean it."

"I understand, Daddy," I said, more clearly.

I looked away, feeling guilty while at the same time feeling as if I shouldn't have had anything to be sorry for. This wasn't my fault, after all.

"It was a cute attempt, but as you can see, there's nowhere for you to go, little one, even if you do go off on your own. And, don't forget," he said, giving me a little smirk as he looked down and brought his muzzle to my nose. "You're chipped. There's nowhere you can go on all of Arctoidea or even the Caniform system where you won't be found and returned to Daddy. Now let's get your collar back on. The original one we chose looked best after all, don't you think?"

He gave my nose a gentle kiss with his warm, fuzzy lips, and rubbed a thumb over my forehead. I was speechless. Of course they would be able to track me. I wondered if they even were worried about me while I was gone. But something still didn't quite make sense to me.

"But there were others..." I said, with dark green and black fur... they looked like they were going to go after me..."

Daddy snorted as he sat me down on a nearby counter to affix my old collar -  strip of seamless black with a silver diamond tag - around my neck. "Not a chance. No one would lay a finger on you now. It doesn't take a chip to tell that you're a Beringas's pet."

There he went, invoking the clan name again. Just how infamous were they? And was it really enough?

"H-how do you know?" I asked.

"Look, pet," he said, snapping his fingers and signaling with his hand. Maffy, who had been standing in attendance the whole time, brought a small mirror over and held it up in front of me. There, in the middle of my forehead, was a white-furred dot where the Father had touched it. "You're marked. No one dares touch a marked pet, especially not a Beringas. We're not as soft as we look, little one."

I looked around to see Laffy and Maffy nodding enthusiastically, Laffy puffing his blue-furred chest almost comically. While it was hard to imagine my soft and fuzzy otter friends, or my handsome and slightly goofy looking green marten master intimidating anyone, it still made me feel better.

"He's right, you know," said Nyctos. "The Beringas clan were great warriors long before they became one of the core families. Anyone fool enough to think they've lost their touch these past few peaceful millenia is sorely mistaken."

"And the Ailurians are as charming as ever," said Daddy, with a smirk.

"Ah, thank you," said Nyctos, taking a theatrically flamboyant bow.

"I thank you for helping me today, and for finding my pet," said Daddy.

"Seems like I have a knack for being in the right place at the right time," said Nyctos. "Think nothing of it. Does this mean you're going home now?"

"If that's you wondering if you're invited, you needn't wonder. You're always welcome in our walls, redfriend. And I hope you can bring Princess along too. I'd love to know more tips about caring for Spot."

"Thanks, greenfriend." said Nyctos, bowing. "I'll do my best. Are we done shopping for now, then? Shall we get a bite to eat?"

"Not so fast," said Daddy. "I do have one bit of merchandise to try out..." My eyes practically crossed as Daddy held up the neon green dildo-gun from earlier.

"H-here?! Now?!" I yelped. The towering green Marten looked down at me with a patronizing smile.

"Yes, little one, here and now. Because Daddy said so."
