Had a comment from ThePullupsKid saying it would be fun to see how my drawings evolve from start to end, so I put this together beginning with the really rough initial sketch.
I try to be very loose and fluid in the first sketch. That's where you find the major forms and try to evoke the overall feelings. The second sketch works out all of the details. By the time I'm doing the final lines, I don't want to have to do any thinking: just literally outline, so I try to make sure all of the complicated stuff is figured out in the sketch. After the lines are done, I block out where color will go. In comics they call this "flatting". I often just use random colors for this stage, like blue for skin, green for hair, etc. Once the shapes are all filled in, I can go back and make sure the colors are what I want them to be. Finally I can add the finishing things like shadows, blush, outline color, etc.
I can definitely post more process pieces like this in the future if you're interested! Or maybe you'd just like to see the very first sketch side-by-side with the final 🤷♂️ Lemme know
