He’s working the case, a rogue police detective with his fair share of demons and a troubled past to boot, fitting for a city where the angels hide and the devils strut. He discovers a mysterious receipt and handkerchief belonging to a singer from a jazz lounge downtown and decides to investigate further…
You’re the singer at The Violet Lounge, ever talented, ever capable, with a voice that could move men to do almost anything you wanted. And yet, just when you were starting out your career, you managed to get a handsy husband, with a short fuse, who was mob connected and dragged you into his life in the underworld, never to fully realise your dreams. It’s the same routine day-in and day-out, singing your soul out to lecherous men on a tiny stage with a blinding spotlight. That is until one day, that handsome, quick-witted detective decides to come poking around the lounge and ask a few questions of his own.
Ostensibly he’s solving the murder case, in which you’re very much a prime suspect, but it soon becomes apparent he can’t keep his mind on only the case at hand…
