Corner Office Part 2

A fmg-25 universe story

Monday morning arrived with Lily already an inch taller than when she'd gone to bed. Her ankles peeked out from her pajama bottoms as she stumbled to the bathroom, her whole body aching like she'd run a marathon.

"Oh no, no, no..." she muttered, catching sight of herself in the mirror. Her usually loose nightshirt now hugged her frame snugly. She'd known this was coming – her mother's daily updates had prepared her for the physical changes – but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely.

Getting dressed proved challenging. Her best pencil skirt barely reached her knees now, and her blouse buttons strained ominously across her chest. After trying on nearly everything in her closet, she settled for a stretchy dress she usually saved for casual Fridays. Even her comfortable work shoes felt tight.

The office was oddly quiet when she arrived. Sandra from HR, usually perched at the front desk, was absent – out sick, according to the post-it note on her desk. Lily had a suspicion she knew why.

"Miss Chen!" Crawford's voice made her jump. "Care to explain why you're not in proper office attire?"

Lily turned, already feeling her face flush. Crawford stood in his office doorway, frowning at her dress. "I'm sorry, sir. I seem to have... grown a bit overnight. My regular clothes don't quite fit."

Crawford's eyes narrowed as he looked her up and down. "The virus?" When she nodded, his frown deepened. "Well, I expect you to sort out your wardrobe situation immediately. We can't have you looking unprofessional just because of some... inconvenient growth spurt."

"Yes, sir. I'll go shopping after work."

"See that you do. And try not to break anything – you're already clumsy enough at your normal size."

The day passed in a blur of discomfort. By lunchtime, Lily had grown another inch, and her shoes were pinching her feet mercilessly. She caught Tom staring at her a few times, but he quickly looked away when their eyes met.

Tuesday brought two more inches of height and the mortifying sound of her last proper work blouse splitting at the seams as she reached for a file. She spent the rest of the day wearing her emergency cardigan buttoned up to her neck, trying to hide the damage.

"You too, huh?" Janet from Marketing whispered during a coffee break. Janet, usually eye-level with Lily, now stood nearly four inches taller. "This virus is something else. Did you see Sandra? She's already past six feet!"

Wednesday was the day everything started feeling small. At 5'8", Lily found herself having to duck slightly to see her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Her desk chair groaned ominously whenever she sat down, and she'd already snapped two pens with her unexpectedly stronger grip.

Crawford was particularly brutal during the morning meeting. "Miss Chen, since you're apparently trying to become a giant, perhaps you could use some of that extra height to actually see the errors in these reports?" He tossed a stack of papers across the table. "Three typos on the first page alone. Are you trying to make us look incompetent?"

Lily tried to defend herself, but the words caught in her throat. It didn't matter that she'd actually caught and corrected dozens of errors in Crawford's own documentation the day before. She began to wonder if he was right – maybe she was becoming too disruptive for the office.

Thursday brought the biggest growth spurt yet. Lily woke up at 6'1", none of her clothes even close to fitting. She cobbled together an outfit from a stretchy maxi dress and a shawl, her feet crammed into the only pair of sandals she owned that still somewhat fit. Even those were cutting into her feet by mid-morning.

"Mr. Crawford," she ventured during a quiet moment, "I may need to work from home tomorrow. I'm having trouble finding appropriate clothes that fit, and I—"

"Excuses, excuses," Crawford cut her off. "First the virus, now your wardrobe? I'm starting to think you're looking for reasons not to do your job, Miss Chen."

"No, sir! That's not—"

"Just get it sorted. And stop looming over my desk – it's unprofessional."

Lily hadn't even realized she was standing at her full height. She quickly tried to make herself smaller, an old habit that was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.

Friday evening found Lily hunched over a too-small table at a café, fighting back tears as she faced her mother. Margaret Chen, formerly 5'4", now towered at 7'8". She wore what appeared to be custom-made clothing, her massive frame somehow still maintaining its elegant bearing.

"I don't know what to do, Mom," Lily sniffled, her own 6'5" frame awkward in a hastily purchased men's tracksuit. "Mr. Crawford hates me now. I keep making mistakes because everything feels wrong, and I can barely find clothes that fit, and the chair at my desk keeps creaking, and—"

"Lily, sweetheart," Margaret interrupted, reaching across the table to take her daughter's hand. Her own had grown enormously powerful, but her touch was still gentle. "Take a breath. You're not doing anything wrong. You're just changing, like so many of us."

"But what if I lose my job? Mr. Crawford already thinks I'm incompetent, and now I'm turning into some kind of... of..."

"Amazing Amazon?" Margaret suggested with a slight smile. "Honey, I've been through this already. Yes, it's scary. Yes, everything feels strange. But you're still you – still my brilliant, capable daughter. Don't let anyone make you feel less than that, especially not some man who's clearly terrified of change."

Lily wiped her eyes with her free hand, noticing absently how the table seemed to shrink further away. Was she still growing? "I just... I worked so hard to get this position, Mom. What if being like this means I can't do my job anymore?"

Margaret's expression softened. "Lily, look at me. Really look." She sat up straight, her head nearly brushing the café's ceiling. "I was afraid too, at first. But do you know what I discovered? Being bigger, stronger – it hasn't made me less capable. If anything, I can do more now than ever before. Last week, I reorganized the entire Boston office filing system in one day. By myself. No ladder needed."

Despite herself, Lily giggled. Then she noticed her sleeve had ridden up several inches on her arm. "Oh no... am I...?"

"Growing right now? Probably. I did most of my growing in bursts, usually in the evenings." Margaret glanced around the café. "Maybe we should take this conversation somewhere with higher ceilings. Besides, we need to get you some proper clothes. I had some of mine from mid-transformation shipped here – they might fit you for at least a few days."

As they stood to leave, Lily caught their reflection in the café window. Her mother, magnificent and confident at 7'8", and herself, already much taller than she'd been that morning, still growing. Still changing.

"Mom?" she asked quietly as they stepped outside. "Does it... does it ever stop feeling strange?"

Margaret wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "The growing? Yes, eventually. The feeling of being different? That takes longer. But you'll find your way, sweetheart. We all do."

As they walked down the street, Lily noticed how people moved aside to let them pass, their eyes wide with a mixture of awe and uncertainty. She tried to make herself smaller out of habit, then caught herself. Maybe her mother was right. Maybe this change didn't have to mean the end of everything she'd worked for.

She just wished she could believe it as confidently as her mother seemed to.

Monday morning of her second week found Lily ducking through the office doorway, wearing one of her mother's borrowed outfits – a navy business dress that had fit perfectly the night before but now felt snug across her shoulders. At 7'3", she was already taller than most of the transformed women in the office, though not yet as tall as her mother.

Sandra from HR, who had completed her transformation at a respectable 7'1", stopped by Lily's desk with forms for the company's new "size accommodation" policy. "Getting used to it yet?" she asked, having to look up slightly to meet Lily's eyes.

"Hardly," Lily admitted, shifting in her reinforced chair – a recent emergency purchase after the third regular one had given out under her growing frame. "I keep hitting my head on things. And I'm still growing."

"Tell me about it," Janet from Marketing chimed in, striding over. She'd finished growing at 7'5" and moved with a confidence Lily envied. "But have you noticed how much easier everything else is? I finished the Thompson campaign in half the time it usually takes."

Lily had noticed something similar. Despite her increasing size making some tasks awkward, she found herself handling multiple projects with surprising ease. Her mind seemed sharper, her memory clearer. Even Crawford's constant criticism couldn't deny her improved efficiency.

By Wednesday, Lily had reached 7'8", matching her mother's height. Her borrowed clothes were straining at the seams again, but a rush delivery of specialty-ordered business wear was due tomorrow. She'd started compile digital copies of all paper documents, finding she could type faster than ever before.

"Miss Chen!" Crawford barked from his office. "The quarterly projections. Where are they?"

"Already sent to your email, sir," Lily replied, her voice carrying easily across the office despite her soft tone. "Along with the revised budget analysis you requested and the Johnson contract amendments."

Crawford emerged from his office, having to tilt his head back to look at her. "I specifically asked for paper copies."

"They're on your desk as well, sir. Second folder from the left, underneath the merger documents."

His face reddened slightly as he checked and found them exactly where she'd said. "Well... make sure to highlight the important sections next time," he muttered before retreating back to his office.

Thursday brought another growth spurt, pushing Lily to 7'11". The morning board meeting was an interesting experience – she noticed several new faces among the directors, all of them transformed women in immaculate designer suits. They watched her with particular interest as she distributed materials and took notes.

"Quite impressive," she overheard one of them say to another as the meeting concluded. "And still growing, by the look of it."

Friday started like any other day, but by afternoon Lily had grown another three inches, reaching 8'2". She was now the tallest person in the office, her head nearly brushing against the standard ceiling. She was carefully maneuvering through the narrow space between desks when Crawford stormed out of his office.

"Miss Chen! What is the meaning of this email?" he demanded, waving his phone. In his agitation, he stepped directly into her path. Lily tried to stop, but her new size and momentum worked against her. She collided with Crawford, sending him stumbling backward into a desk.

"Mr. Crawford! I'm so sorry!" Lily reached out instinctively to help him up, but he swatted her hand away.

"This is unacceptable!" he shouted, his face purple with rage. "Look at this! You're a menace! You can't even walk through the office without causing chaos!"

"I didn't mean to—"

"Miss Chen," a commanding voice interrupted. Everyone turned to see Diana Winters, one of the new board members, standing in the doorway. At 7'6", she cut an imposing figure in her tailored charcoal suit. "Please come with me. The board would like a word."

Lily's heart sank. This was it – she was about to be fired. She followed Diana to the board room, having to duck significantly to enter. Inside, she found the full board waiting: James Porter, the one remaining male director; Patricia Reynolds, who hadn't been affected by the virus; and three transformed women, including Diana, all exuding an aura of power and authority.

"Please, sit," Diana gestured to a reinforced chair that actually seemed to be her size.

"Miss Chen," James began, "we've been monitoring your performance closely over the past two weeks."

"I'm so sorry about the accident with Mr. Crawford," Lily blurted out. "I'm still adjusting to my size, and—"

"Oh, forget Crawford," Patricia waved dismissively. "We've been more interested in your productivity metrics."

Diana leaned forward, her perfectly manicured hands clasped on the table. "Your efficiency has increased by 200% since your transformation began. You're handling multiple complex tasks simultaneously, catching errors that would have cost the company millions, and showing remarkable adaptation to your new capabilities."

"I... what?" Lily blinked in confusion.

"The incident with Crawford today only confirms what we've already decided," another of the transformed directors, Victoria, added. "This company needs to evolve with the times. We've been systematically evaluating all departments for reorganization, prioritizing capable women who have undergone the transformation."

"The fact is," James continued, "you've been doing Crawford's job for years, haven't you? Learning his responsibilities, covering his mistakes, keeping everything running smoothly?"

Lily shifted uncomfortably. "I just tried to be thorough..."

"You've been running that department single-handedly," Diana stated firmly. "Crawford just takes the credit. Well, that ends today. We're promoting you to Department Director. Crawford will be... reassigned as your assistant."

"My... what?" Lily's head spun. "But I'm just a secretary! And now I'm enormous, and clumsy, and—"

"You're exactly what this company needs," Patricia interrupted. "Strong, capable, and impossible to ignore. You'll learn to manage your size – we all did. And having someone of your stature in a leadership position sends exactly the right message to our clients and competitors."

"The men had their time," Victoria added with a slight smirk. "Now it's time for them to step back into more... suitable roles. Where they can't be seen towering over their transformed superiors."

"But what if I'm not ready?" Lily asked, her old insecurities bubbling up despite her impressive new size.

Diana stood, somehow managing to make her 7'6" frame seem even more imposing. "Miss Chen – Lily – you've been ready for years. The only difference is now you have the presence to match your capabilities. The contract is ready whenever you are." She slid a tablet across the table.

Lily stared at the document, her new height giving her a literal new perspective on everything. She thought about all the times Crawford had belittled her, all the capabilities she'd hidden to avoid overshadowing him, all the potential she'd kept contained in a small package.

Maybe it was time to stand tall in more ways than one.

She picked up the stylus, her large hand somehow still maintaining the delicate control needed to sign her name. As she did, she caught her reflection in the boardroom's windows – 8'2" of power and potential she was only beginning to understand.

"Welcome to the new Crawford & Associates," Diana smiled. "I think you'll find the view from up here quite different."
