I've been asked a few times to describe my inspiration and I've done a post on this before, but just wanted to elaborate a bit more - with some suggested comic reads!

(In other words, I may not be able to write Bad Space any faster than I am, but I can point you in the direction of some terrific comics to tide you through! 😂)

We'll get back to our regular programming real soon, I promise.

____

Lazarus

Just finished the latest Lazarus by Rucka and Lark. And my god, these two can tell a story.

I went back to the beginning of the series and reread it all again. This comic is good medicine. And a wonderful antidote against those who say politics and science fiction shouldn’t mix. 10 out of fkn 10.

____

Upgrade Soul

Beautiful genetic engineering sci-fi. As someone who has had to endure a lot of terrible science fiction in comics over the years, this is just sweet, sweet relief. And also very moving. 🥲

____

Slaughterhouse Five

The classic book by Kurt Vonnegut adapted into comic.

Ive often found comic book adaptations to be awful. Lazy and over-stuffed with words. But this is the exception. This comic uses the medium of comics beautifully- and at times exceeds the medium of the book.

A friend of mine who visits me partly just to read my comics, said this is the best comic she has ever read.

____

Friday

Finished the second collected TP a couple of weeks ago. This a series that you can also read online at PanelSyndicate. Gripping, beautifully written, beautifully drawn, fantasy, thriller, about what happens after the teenage detectives from those YA books grow up.

Loving this. But a warning, like Lazarus, this is still ongoing.

____

Finally, Treasure of the Black Swan

For those of you who like your non fiction - this is a good read. How wealthy pirates seeking to destroy shipwrecks for financial gain, meet their match. Excellently paced and told with a sharp eye for the political nuance and the greys that this kind of story demands.

Let me know if you've read any of these or if you have anything you think I need to see. I'm always on the hunt for more comics!
