A big hello to new members and to existing ones!Â
I got a new comic out today, which was satisfying, and simultaneously nerve wracking! The stress of people looking at my work is real, I'm sad to say.Â
Anyway, the first image (above) is a shout-out to my Patreons. Â Notice the gritty texture in the sky? While working on this comic, I bought some new pencil and grit textures to use for the creation of these drawings - and I did this thanks to your support.
You are literally helping me make these comics better, and I just wanted to say thank you.
The abstract-looking second image is a bit different. Â It's an unused panel, where I was trying to show consciousness collapsing. It works I think, but wasn't disturbing enough, so I ditched it.
This was a really interesting concept to explore though! I'm sure you're all aware of Schrödinger's cat, and the concept of the cat in the box which only collapses into a dead or living state once it has been observed. In my latest comic (Fear the Dark) I imagined a kind of vast inter-dimensional Medusa whose particular qualities mean that once she claps eyes on us, the strange process that makes awareness possible also collapses. This is mostly metaphorical of course, as there doesn't seem to be a quantum feature to consciousness, but I'm talking higher dimensions here, so whatever!
The story also touches on Dark Matter, which is borne simply out of my annoyance with the lack of scientific progress on this subject. They solved the extinction of the dinosaurs, why can't they figure out where the missing universe is? Very frustrating. So, in short I decided, if you want something done, do it yourself.Â
I'm sure science will thank me one day 😂
