In this month's "At Least One of Us Will Enjoy This" we get literary as I explore Chris Offutt's My Father, the Pornographer, a memoir of his life growing up with Andrew J. Offutt, a prolific writer of genre fiction and paperback smut. I also take a look at one of his father's books, Evil is Live Spelled Backwards, a sometimes silly, often fascinating dystopian novel best described as, "what if The Handmaid's Tale had been written by a horny man?"
Note: In this segment, I'll be talking a lot about sexual violence, both real and fictional, sadism, emotional abuse, and power imbalance. I did my best to keep the tone light, but I also wanted to treat these subjects with the gravity they deserve.
At over 40 minutes, this is longer and slightly different in tone than the usual "ALOoUWET." It required an outline, several recording sessions, and a lot of editing. I'm very proud (and thoroughly sick of) the result. I hope you animals enjoy it.
