I filmed a new YT video this morning and I thought it might be fun to give you an inside look at my creation process! 📸

1. Brainstorming & planning

I typically begin with brainstorming and checking my ever-growing list of video ideas. I try to focus on filming what I would personally most like to see in an ASMR video, and I'm constantly drawing inspiration from videos that I've been loving lately from other creators, which often sparks new concepts! While I usually have a rough schedule of what to film throughout the week, I like to keep things flexible so I can go with whatever idea I’m most excited about in the moment. The whole process flows best when I’m genuinely in the mood for a particular idea!

2. Setting the scene

When it’s time to film, I gather all the props I need and place them on a towel to soften any potential noise. Sometimes I also write down some quick notes to refer to for video structure. I turn on all my lighting and make sure my camera and mic are good to go. If I’m using a black background or doing a POV video, I’ll take extra time to set up all the equipment on the floor beforehand. Depending on the video and how smoothly things go (shoutout to my noisy upstairs neighbor), filming can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or more.

3. Syncing video & audio

Once filming is done, I double check my audio just to make sure nothing went wrong. I record audio separately in Audacity, where I can remove background noise and adjust the stereo channels for that right and left ear sound. I like to sync audio and video in iMovie while also using a color correction tool that I prefer there to soften any harsh shadows.

4. Editing & refining

With the synced video and audio ready, I move everything into Final Cut Pro for the main editing session. Here I cut out any mistakes, adjust the volume levels, and add any pop-ups or end screens. I watch through the entire video to ensure I haven't missed anything before finalizing.

5. Thumbnail & upload tIme

While the final video is exporting, I typically screenshot a few thumbnail options from a separate video that I recorded only with thumbnail poses ;D and I choose the one that I feel most drawn to. Then it's time to upload! I add the title, description, timestamps, and any other details before it's all set to go :)

It's fairly straight forward, but it works well for me! I'd be super curious to know if any of you have considered making your own ASMR videos? ♡
