[UPDATE] I probably found a way to fix this issue by merging several stories, letting me start a lag-free new story for all upcoming scenes and just merging it before uploading, thus miss-adventures could continue development for way longer!
Hi! I'm still alive. Life has been hectic. Today I have a couple of hours to work on the game. I'm running into a little problem lately. I love miss-adventures and all the good things it's brought me (and I'm not talking about money). It's getting a little out of hand though.
This whole thing started as "I'll make a little twine game in a day and see if people enjoy it" to this huge thing where literally 50+ people give me $300+ a month for working on it. It's crazy in a good way, but the project is getting so huge that sometimes I lose track and stop enjoying it a little. There's also the problem that Twine, the software I use to make the game, is really starting to lag and slow down because of how huge this project is getting! I had no idea but I checked the stats and the game has:
- 1265725 Characters
- 194844 Words
- 1055 Passages
That's insane! I can't type within the software anymore because it's just too slow, so I have to type in notepad and paste it in. I suppose someday soon it might crash altogether. Perhaps I could upgrade my RAM and get it working better again. But it made me think about the future of miss-adventures. I definitely want to finish everything that's empty and make it a final build, but perhaps I want to move on to a new project someday. A nice fresh start on a new game.
I was wondering what you all were thinking. Do you want me to continue Miss-Adventures forever? Or would you not mind it being done someday and moving on to a next project? I secretly started working on a second project every once in a while when I didn't feel like doing miss-adventures. It's nowhere near release-ready and needs tons of work still, but I'm really enjoying doing something entirely different. I could also just do both: continuing miss-adventures while also working on this other project alongside it. Of course this would mean they would both take longer to develop, and it doesn't remove the problem of miss-adventures growing out of twine's capabilities.
Let me know what you all think about this! Whichever you choose, miss-adventures will be finished up and as much content added as the software can take, but I'm afraid there will be an ending to it eventually, which is kind of sad in a way as I had huge plans that might never become reality if I simply can't add them.
